Something some people fail to notice, is that the future doesn't change until Takemitchy returns. Naoto mentioned once I think that he knew Takemitcy had returned to the present because his memories were all rewritten. Essentially, Takemitchy's actions in the past don't take affect in the present until he returns. That's my understanding. If he stayed in the past, I guess he could live out the future he wants to create, but poor Naoto would be stuck in a future where Hina's deceased. Naoto did save him from getting hit by the train after all, even if it was because of what Takemitchy told him in the past, he still believed him. Takemitchy sort of owes it to Naoto to come back. At this point, neither could create the opportunity to change the past without the other.
