Tatiana Maslany plays Jen in Marvels Cinematic She-Hulk. Is it too woke for y’all. My confidence dropped truly to help Jen out not gonna lie. But i loved her 😭😭😭. ❤️

its not the fact that they address social issues for me, almost every story ever does that. it's the fact that they do it at the sacrifice of the writing. mad max fury road is a good example of good writing and subtly addressing social issues instead of the show feeling like an essay to people the writers hate/dislike already. Its not going to convince people who disagree with it if they basically look at the screen and say “BEING A WOMAN IS HARD”

Yaboyrocklee

I aint gonna lie. I re reacted and as i was going through the scenes… i was like damn 😭😭😭😭. Didn’t sound like that the first watch. But i go so invested, I finished and published the video. But man that was probably the wekanest point I’ve had. I’ve defended homelander with more conviction 😭

Grelk

Yeah, its just sad because i know there are writers that can do better, but to me it feels like marvel’s gotten lazy because of its popularity and how most of the fans will eat anything that they push out up

dero45

I’m with you it’s a hard line but cousins or sisters usually say rude and not necessarily true things to each other to prove their point who hasn’t had a fam member that thought they was better I just hope it’s a learning moment inc from that and she learns just how hard it is for Bruce I’m just a wait and see kinda guy instead of jumping on a hate bang wagon like I don’t have a brain of my own

Roronoa Zoro

To add on. I feel like either she doesn’t know what bruce has been through or doesn’t care. She brings up being catcalled, or having incompetent men tell her how to do her job. I get those can be frustrating but that isn’t worse than the years of abuse bruce went through cause of his father. He spent years on the run from the government. The first woman he loved died to protect the universe and even at the cost of his arm he couldn’t bring her back. My main issue with the she hulk episode is how she constantly tries to belittle bruce and one up him. A lot of sly digs to her family. It really shouldn’t be about who is better, stronger, or smarter. I like the she hulk character. I just feel like they’re blatantly ignoring bruces entire backstory

Thamor

I already knew what kind of show it would be as the idea of She-Hulk was already in my mind very bad idea. But I find it fun to hear YBRL explain :D

my main issue with how western companies deal with empowering women is how they do it by hating on men. Instead of making the women look strong, they make it so that the men are oppressing women instead. It's a very western thing because, if you've ever seen the asian representation of strong women they are very different and you never see men complaining abouthose. There are the ane-san boss type women, where they are the head of organization composed mostly of men. These are tough, smart women who rose through the ranks despite being women. Men in these organization are mostly portrayed as people who deeply respect their ane-san, not hating on her. This type of character works well with men and leads them. An example of this character would be Tanya, and while she's technically a man inside, her subordinates doesnt know that. Olivier Armstrong from FMAB. Crusch from REzero. Albedo from overlord. There are onna-kishi type women, women who are born naturally physically powerful. It's not that men are weak, they(onna-kishi) are just born incredibly strong. They are warriors. She is hated by some, loved by some, but feared by her enemies. But she doesn't really care, she just does her own thing. This is very common, Erza scarlet from fairy tail. Boa Hancock, Robin. Elsa from rezero. Esdeath from akame ga kill. Shalltear from overlord. Then there are the femme fatale type women, women who are strong by using their femininity. seduction, persuasion, these type of women are very wise and hide behind men they use as their puppets whether the men does so willingly or unknowingly. Rize from Tokyo Ghoul. Irina from Asssassination classroom. Fujiko from Lupin III, Lust from FMAB. Then there are the hardworking type of women, they're not strong, maybe decently smart, but the point is they lack the ability. These are women who try to operate in men dominated fields. They are openly mocked usually by men. Similar to mainstream does it, but one big difference. Instead of hating all men, or cursing men, or blaming men at all. They just work hard and do their best to prove everyone wrong. While these type of character lack ability, they do not lack charisma and soon enough people start looking up to them. These kinds of character usually evolve to any of the three i mentioned above or something else. Akane Tsunemori from Psycho pass. Ochako from MHA. Emilia from ReZero. You don't hear any of these strong women characters talk about how they are strong because they're being catcalled or being mansplained. They prove it with their actions. There are a lot more than these, but this is just to prove my point that they dont have to shit on men to make powerful women characters. Instead time and time again we all see lazy writing and make all men scapegoats and the only way they know how to empower women is by hating on men.

Aglesh

Can you tell me when she-hulk said that she is more strong because she was catcalled ? She literallys says that it helped her become more tune with her anger and how to control them, she never said she was more powerful or strong because of that.

Yaboyrocklee

After a rewatch. I have a hard agreement on the lazy writing lol. Especially with her being a lawyer. You see how hard i try to find the best words to articulate my point? I only have a legal studies degree. She should not have taken an L by the internet over the things she says. It should be over the things she does. She should be the best at Articulation 😭. I’ll giver her a pass for speaking frank with her cousin though. She gets up, says i love ya cuz, walks away lol

Yaboyrocklee

Yup. I hate jumping on the hate band wagon to the point where I usually like it more. Lol

Sonicluis

I feel like the movies are way better than the D+ shows. The shows feel like everything is just Disney pushing something down our throats and sacrificing writing. You can go look at every show except Wandavision. I just feel like she-hulk came at the boiling point where people are tired of it.

Jack

Honestly the Mc has no redeemable qualities to me. It’s hard not to root for the villain in this

Random Guy

Being strong isn't just about physical strength. As you have stated, Jen said it herself, that she is mentally stronger than Bruce because she is constantly catcalled or mansplained. If you've watched the hulk movies you'd know just how fucked up Bruce's experience was when he became the hulk, so much so that he developed DID that manifested everytime he transformed.

Yaboyrocklee

“I know how to get control my anger Bruce because i do it indefinitely more than you”.

King Uma is life

Everyone mad that She-Hulk seems to be a bitch with no emotion. Have you ever met a lawyer? LMAO

KingRoboNinja

A lot of the “haters” do have a mind of they’re own bro.. you know you can look up a script weeks, maybe months, before a show comes out? You can look up about a lot of the crap that goes on behind the scenes, not saying there was in She Hulk, but some people really don’t have to WATCH the whole show cause they already know what the dialogue and underlining message is.. but hey let’s keep grouping up the people who’ve been complaining about the writing, rightfully so, with brainless haters who hate women 💀also I’ve never had a family member who made “I’m better than you” comments 🤷🏽‍♂️

Yaboyrocklee

1. This thread isn’t personally geared towards you. If you’re not s bandwagon hater than this never applied to you. A lot of people have brains of their own and a lot of people don’t. Its a mute point 2. I’m sure a family member didn’t say “I’m better than you”. They said something else. He said a generic statement about family being rude to each other as a norm. But prior to responding note. This comment wasn’t geared at you. That being said. I’m glad to know folks look up the script and form conclusions before witnessing the the action, actress and her delivery.

Yaboyrocklee

These Lawyers will look you straight in the face and say some wild personal shit to prove a point or expose the client. That’s actually a fantastic point. They sometimes have to be cold because they gotta represent someone they know aint shit or the prosecution working to send innocent people to jail. You are right to focus on profession in that manner. That being said. I don’t consider her a bitch in the least bit.

KingRoboNinja

I completely understand it wasn’t geared to me that’s why I said “a lot of the haters” but at the same time it’s been easy for the shows supporters to generalize a group of people with “band wagon haters” I have friends and loved ones who choose not to watch the show due to other peoples opinions that were backed by factual beliefs, does that make them brainless? Again some people don’t have families that are rude, they may joke here and there but I haven’t heard any condescending comments or comments to make themself seem better. Sure they can think it or gossip to they’re little friends about it, but I’ve never heard a family member say a line like “your trauma doesn’t matter cause mines is greater”.I will also note that I do watch the content I spoil myself with script leaks, you may be able to see the script but the delivery by a actor/actress can do a 180 on the script, for this show I saw and think they can’t do it.. also script reading is something that A LOT of people do 😁 not some thing that just started happening out of the blue

King Uma is life

I was mostly exaggerating cause of how everyone complaining sounds but I totally feel the same. She's more blunt than anything and maybe a little cold but that just comes with the type of person that becomes a lawyer. It takes a certain type of person. Especially when you see the corporate environment she works in compared to say Daredevil's tiny pro-bono office where he takes cases for free out of the good of his heart.

Bruce's traumatic backstory seems to make its way into people's opinion on this show and that confuses me..... This is the MCU.... There has never been any of that in the MCU so why on earth would showrunners/writers care to pander to this non-existent history? I'm sure if they had legal rights to the character to further explore Hulk and his background, then we likely would've had a Hulk movie or show bringing that into existence....but we don't. And anyone who watches MCU and has comic knowledge, knows that they tend to change things up anyway so who knows what Banners backstory would've been turned into had we gotten it. Now, Ang Lee's Hulk movie is one that did give his "childhood trauma" backstory, but that is not connected to the MCU so 🤷🏼‍♀️ I personally would've loved that fully explored Hulk in the MCU that follows the comics, it would've been a pretty great story. Maybe that stuff can be worked out legally and we can get a more fleshed out Hulk, but as of now that's just not the case in the MCU. Hence, where my confusion lies 🤔 Disliking the show because it's just not your bag is one thing, different strokes for different folks and all that, but this backstory "being ignored" that I see brought up in many a comment section seems a moot point.

Roronoa Zoro

Because we all know bruces history. Just because it hasn’t been shown in the mcu yet doesn’t mean it’s not there. Tom hollands spiderman doesn’t go through the whole obtaining his powers cause we already know how that happens. It makes no sense to completely change a character’s backstory so we’re going with the assumption that it’s the same for Bruce. If may not be in the mcu but since the hulk/bruce banner is the back story is 100% connected to the mcu in the eyes of most marvel fans

Roronoa Zoro

His childhood trauma isn’t a non existent story. It’s LITERALLY the back story of bruce banner.

DANIEL PEEDAH

Nah… not this one, you’re doing headcannon like one piece fans, but yes, he’s been through a lot w the military but as you saw in the show Bruce doesn’t give af about that shit anymore, he cares more about her not going through it than having a victimisation off with his younger cousin 🤣

Roronoa Zoro

I get that. Trust me i do. I already understand why bruce is doing what he’s doing. It’s to protect his family from going through what he did.

Donovan Kagy

Are u guys going to watch doctor strange

Daniel Gonzalez

I thought the Edward Norton movie was canon it even had Fury and Stark at the end so he has at least been hunted and chased for much of his life

Kay M

it is canon since Stark was in the end of the movie and I saw in a trailer that the original actor for Emil Blonsky from that same movie is gonna come back in this show as Abomination so the Edward Norton movie is def canon

Tom Le

I don't know, she just comes off like an early Tony Stark or Doctor Strange. Arrogant, abrasive, full of themselves kinda deal. Like they're the shit. I don't remember people giving those two characters a lot of shit for how they were acting in the first 30mins of their shows/movies.

Yaboyrocklee

lol, as a person who likes surprises and covers blind reactions, reading a script prior to watching something is just an foreign concept to me, but in heinsight...you are right on that part, with everything else, it's just friendly disagreement. I don't aim to change the world opinion, just share mine and listen to others. it was a apleasure reading yours as that helps me further understand different types of people.

Tom Le

Yeah not to mention how she's a narcissist playboy billionaire who directly manufactures weapons that kills countless innocents. Oh wait that was Tony Stark at the beginning of his movie lol ... So I guess if a guy is a major bitch it's fine. That's really what I'm getting from other peoples reaction to what you said yourself, her character plays into how she acts and plenty of other Marvel chars act like that but for some reason this time we can't have this bitch be arrogant and powerful right off the bat. People are hypocrites.

Tom Le

They're just experimenting and trying to reach more audience and they can afford to take even more risks now because they're too big to fail essentially. Look at Moon Knight, the actual SuperHero was only in the entire show for like 10 minutes. It was just a show preaching mental health, and guess what I loved Moon Knight. Now this is a more girl power oriented show. I can't relate too much on it cause I'm a guy, but I can still enjoy it or not enjoy it without getting tired of Marvel shows as a whole because some of them aren't geared towards me.

KingRoboNinja

Agree 100%! I’m not trying to start a war on personal opinions with anyone :) just trying to get a point across that a lot of people were trying to do but got swarmed over the actual haters, that was my biggest issue with everything 😂 if you enjoy a show you should definitely watch it, who tf cares what everyone else thinks when you the one sitting on the couch having a good time lol(obviously it’s a bit different doing reactions but you get what I mean) also say what you want about the show.. but that girl pulls off the color green 🤷🏽‍♂️😂

Pilausky

Moreover and besides Jen herself, it was a terrible pilot. All we saw her do was practice a very mid lawyer speech, BOOM she's a hulk btw and she then directly tells us "oh I bet you're just dying to know how I'm a hulk huh". I mean yeah I put on the show but you should at least try to be interesting and not just assume... It then went on to 'tell and not show' everything. At the end of the episode it didn't establish a mystery, it didn't establish an antagonist and Jen didn't gain a clear goal. You can say her goal is to continue living her life as she has been, but that's not interesting without an external force preventing her from doing so. Well its her Hulk powers. Her powers are well under control. And its biggest failure is, its just not funny. You're comedy show is not funny. Compare this to the Sandman Pilot, its just so mid.

Vern

If everyone paused Iron man after 30 minutes and waited a week they might have. You can't compare reactions of TV shows to movies. You watch the whole movie the character goes from being shit to decent at the end. At most that's 2 hours lost. But She-Hulk? It could be 5 weeks before she becomes a decent person.

Tom Le

Then it takes 5 week. Like you said they both are different mediums so if it takes longer in real time for us to see that character development then thats how long it takes. But just because it's a show doesn't mean the main character has to have a payoff by the end of the first ep.
