You should do more animal noises Lee! I used to mimic Predator and Velociraptors as a kid so I'm glad to know I'm not the only weirdo out there that dreamed of being living sound board as a kid. lol My coworkers and I when I was still working in blindness rehabilitation used to love doing bird calls and monster/dinosaur/alien sound effects inside to mess with each other and some of our clients since none of us could see (sighted instructors work under blindfold so we can't see either) which just makes it more fun and we try to keep things light hearted when possible due to the obvious stress of the training.

I'm pretty sure Nazuna is supposed to look 18-20ish since apparently she does look old enough to drink in their world as nobody batted an eye over her slinging back beers in episode 3. Happy to see Director's out here defending Nazuna's good name from the would be lolimancers like boss. lol

U know they enjoy an anime when the discussions are longer than the ep

Ara Araragi

The anime studio is LIDENFILMS. Creepy Nuts performs the OP and ED. And for me, the soundtrack is carrying the show just as much as the art and story are.

Anthony Nguyen

Hmm! Even after you went through both Love is War and Nagatoro, you're really, really enjoying this show for being "different", when I would argue that those two shows you previously watched are ALSO very different than the standard for romcoms, but you didn't comment on that so much. Very interesting!

John Ng

In seriousness, even though I loved Nagatoro and likes Love is War, I don’t think they are “different.” They are still going through quite the usual tropes of anime story telling, just that they did it with more interesting storytelling instead of the boring style. Whereas for this anime it hasn’t used much of the usual tropes in anime yet. It’s interestingly “different”.

Yaboyrocklee

John said it well. That’s exactly it. Nagatoro will also get high praises from me. I enjoy how they talk things out and progress fast in this show. Not relying on me getting frustrated like…at all. I get frustrated in Love is war because they wouldn’t confess BUT thats the premise of the show. Lol. I find Call of The Night taking directions I completely didn’t see coming and i still couldn’t guess where we are going. The MC learns from is interactions and between him and Naz, one of them expresses all of it. I like that. It’s mature communication. Finally, i think about it after the show ends. We watch a lot if shows often at once. Only certain shows get me to think about them in between episodes. This is one of them.

Typehazard

The man is in middle school and somehow everyone glosses over the fact that she played the gender card on him about paying for the hotel room lol. Btw what the hell does he do during the day (just sleep)? what about his parents or family, he sneaks out at night so he clearly lives with someone that would scold him if they found out

Anthony Nguyen

@John, I very specifically said different than STANDARD ROMCOMs. If you've watched enough generic romcoms and put them on a standard distribution bell curve Nagatoro and Love is War are both wayyy off of center imo. Especially how Ishigami's romance is being handled, and if you've read the manga... oh boy. Call of the Night def checks the ROMCOM box, but from what I've seen of the show so far (haven't read the Manga), it's really a "coming of age story" for Ko. In a way, I see Ko as a very similar main character to Bell from Danmachi in the way that he's being challenged and growing from it. Thanks for replying!

LMAO lee doing animal noises killed me bro

John Ng

@Anthony Nguyen, for me, both Nagatoro and Love is War still falls under standard romcom. They're just at the front of the packs better than all others in the same category. The only 2 that's worthy of calling "Different" now are Call of the Night, and My Dress Up Darling. For these 2 animes, whatever you expects to happen in standard romcom will not happen. Especially for My Dress Up Darling. You can never guess what is going to happen in the next scene for it. Whereas for Nagatoro and Love is War, you can guess what's going to happen and get it right. That's why they falls under standard romcom to me.

Anthony Nguyen

In my opinion, the reason that you can't guess what's going to happen in Call of the Night or Dress Up Darling is because they aren't really romcoms. They are both laser focused on the growth of the MC from sheltered to becoming more worldly. A girl is the catalyst for the growth to happen in these shows, but the romcom "will they or won't they" isn't the main emphasis - so they don't act or behave like romcoms at all. Taking this line of thinking to it's final conclusion, Lee is finding enjoyment in this show because it's outside of genre convention entirely.

Anthony Nguyen

If I were to make a click-bait video right now, I would produce "is call of the night the madoka of romcoms!?!?"

Connoisseur

I'm anime only on this one and know no spoilers, but two thoughts. First, how do we know she's telling the truth about how people become vampires? Seems highly likely to me that she's lying, especially if she doesn't want to sire any. Second, if she's not lying then it means she fell in love with another vampire at some point. Where are they? Is she still in love with them? Why hasn't that ever come up?

Anonymous

@Anthony Nguyen And honestly thank god for that. Part of the reason why I love Call of the night so much is that its not like most typical Romcoms. I find most Romcoms to be pretty trash. I didn't like Nagatoro or Love is war that much either. I honesty expected Call of the night to be more of the same. But I was pleasantly surprised.

Anonymous

@Anthony Nguyen Call of the night is still a rom com tho, So I don't know what the hell your talking about when your trying to claim it isn't. Just because it doesn't have the usual dumb tropes of a romcom. Doesnet mean its outside the genre. That's a pretty asinine way to look at it.
