Ok, Makoto was spreading his consciousness around the environment to focus on the target (he learned this in his world), but Tomoe says the only time someone's consciousness spreads is when they die, so they think he's committing suicide and reviving (sorry for my poor english)

Also, mio was saying that it "looks" like he's dying to her and tomoe. There is no real technique. It's just something he does when shooting a bow. And the god at the start said the constraints of earth are more of a burden than this world so because that he's naturally stronger on top of the power that same god gave him

I believe in the manga he mentions here that Mio reminds him of 1 of his sisters and he thinks of Tomoe as an older brother which is still fucking weird to me how often he refers to her as being masculine my only guess is she talks in Japanese like a boy.
