Diavolo isn’t king crimson although that is a well known fan theory but it’s not really considered true. The most logical explanation I came to based on what Araki has told us is and how the rules work in jojos is that since doppio and diavolo are different beings with different souls when their body got stabbed with the arrow only one of the souls was able to develop a stand. Kind of like how Dio had Jonathan’s body and he ended up developing two different stands. The more dominant and aggressive one ended up developing the stand since doppio alone probably doesn’t have the potential. Diavolo also talks about how it’s his memories of finding the arrows almost like he was the main persona for that portion of their existence.

I think its also because we know diavolo as crimson king, we are more familiar with crimson king then "diavolo" in a sense so i think it of course crimson king is diavolos stand, but we are trying to defeat "crimson king" if that makes sense. i think it just adds more shock factor and a little more importance when they just show him as crimson king instead of diavolo since thats who we have seen in the light until we found out the bosses identity.

I wonder if they both have King Crimson but only Diavolo has the mental strength to use it fully because remember; Doppio can use premonition ability.
