In games some items have background information about them, like who built it or some kind of story of it's origins. That is what they mean with flavor text.

A bit late but, "Flavour text" is in a very basic sense to spice up game items by adding a history to said item, it's also commonly called as "descriptions" but Flavour text fits quite well since it, in many ways, adds some sort of lore to a item. It might be unrelevant to everything else but It does spice up the general World that the item is in, Because it gives you a background of it or gives it a meaning. It usually includes, who or what it's use was, why it was lost/found (or lack of knowing why). Bad example of a "description": This is a (blank). While flavour text is, more often then not, a story. Check weapons from Nier Automata for examples of some pretty good flavour texts.
