They dropped a lot on us, but the important parts are actually really straightforward. He is hiding his identity due to his aunt, Maya Yotsuba's wishes. He said he could take on his aunt, but could not take on the entire Yotsuba clan right now, so all he could do is bide his time. It reveals a lot about the Yotsuba conflict and the sibling's position in it (remember that Miyuki is widely considered to be the next head of Yotsuba within the clan).

I mean, using Tatsuya as a measuring stick is just slightly unfair. To be fair, can't discount her skills, either. Top secret level gear doesn't hurt, but there is user skill involved too. Well, which came first: Tatsuya wanting to cast perfectly, or Tatsuya unable to waste 'energy' on imperfection.

Good intentions is most of the time start to the path of hell...nobody start that road with bad intentions. That is most usual way of story telling. Funny fact when the girls have the school uniform their "plots" are non-existent...when they have swimsuit on they are so thick that you don't believe your eyes :D
