It's okay to hate on Subaru. I think the author made him that way for the story. His character is extremely ignorant and he takes this new world as game instead of looking at it as a different world with people.

Hey Hey. He isn't THAT stiupid. He writes in Japaneese. In this world speaking language is the same (or have auto-translation like Overlord...I don't know Re:Zero as good so I'm not sure) but writen is something totaly different. It's even stated somewhere directly, but I don't remember where. PS. Before you ask, no there are no "lore bombs" coming.
