Blink and you'll miss it - If you slow down the video to .25 between 18:07-18:09 you can see her transition from the water over the edge and then nothing. Super quick like probably 1-5 frames. If you play with the pause around 18:08 you might get a still frame of it.

I dunno... I think it was heavily implied the daughter was going to be trafficked to pay the moms debt T~T so I am not expecting we see her again, even though I really wish she could be saved... This episode hurt to the core.

While it would be pleasantly surprising to see the real daughter and maybe even save her. The bitter reality feels like the girl was either sold for organs or in human trafficking. I think Director may be right in how the mom probably borrowed from loan sharks and took some out to buy the daughter the dress and that’s why they came back for “payment” including the daughter. He probably being dead may also be why (like other commenters mention) Aira is saying a prayer for both the mother and daughter to go to a “kinder” place in the next life. Spectacular episode, but devastating honestly. Great one off episode/story

I thought it was talking about the ghost and her real mom, since the mom probably died from something like cancer that can be quite painful. I could be wrong, but I dont think the daughter is dead. I interpreted it as she was taken to be trafficked, which means a likely terrible fate for her, but probably still alive unless its been a long long time since the mom died. I could see her saying it about the daughter though. edit: watched it again and I think you are right. Its definitely implied that she is talking about the ghost and her daughter, but I still think there is a good chance the daughter is alive.

so the whole dancing scene happened on top of a roof top and ends with the mom doing a flip off the building to kill herself. (how it was in the manga) pretty sad stuff

I hadn't thought about it that way but her talking about her mom might make more sense, since she wouldn't know what happened to the daughter. I was thinking they just took her to sell her organs, mainly because, realistically that's the "best" outcome, the other option being trafficked like you said. I have heard people say this episode left out some stuff so it might have been explained there.

The back story for the yokai was too real. I was just as speechless as you 3. A common theme in Japan is good spirits becoming monsters for "whatever" reason. I say whatever, because depending on the location and its folklore/beliefs, the reason can change. Generally, a spirit with unfinished business will wander the earth until it either A) Runs out of power and passes on to nothing, B) finishes its business and passes on in peace or C) becomes corrupted and turns into an evil spirit or some kind of yokai. Option C is especially volatile with many different reasons and circumstances causing this to happen. The one we saw in this episode, was the spirit becoming obsessed with the pink hair girl and protecting her. While a valiant reason, it still turned her into a dangerous yokai.

I'm not sure if the subtitles are accurate, but "take them to a more fortunate, kinder world". The "them" makes me think the daughter has passed on, but I wouldn't be surprised if they kept her alive and that was a slight misdirect. I'm a bittersweet way though, it would be ok too if silky got to pass on alongside her daughter in happiness. Damn this episode! How did we go from literal clownshoes nuts to Momo's face, to deep and absolute sadness and melancholy. This show is great

This episode also hit hard with the little things. Things like the "thud/crack" signifying that Silky jumped off a roof. The glass still in her arm. Another simple animation thing that got me was Aira and Silky crying when they were hugging.

We “know” it’s been at least the 10~ years Aira took to grow from a child to a high schooler. . And there’s no conceivable way we knowingly meet her again. We didn’t get mother or child’s name, and there’s no venue for her to proactively seek out the group. . /Practically/, there’s no way she survived her abduction. Gangs don’t abduct people for another mouth to feed, it’s for dark, brutal business.

Have seen another proposed reason for the home invasion; if she wasn’t “one of theirs,” they weren’t getting a cut of her money to begin with, and decided to take it back with interest. . Makes a bit more sense to me, since injuring someone expected to continue working off a debt that badly, then abducting their relative on top of that, seems excessive/inefficient.

For some unconfirmable bits; . Aira’s initial promise concerning her mother likely corrupted upon recognizing that her mother would never ‘come back’ (learning more about death). In which case, she’s still concerned with “being a good person,” but lost the motivation to be thoroughly ‘good,’ possibly took comfort in being underhanded behind the scenes. Being reminded of it might shift her alignment, but also, she is who she is. . Okarun’s Turbo-form _may_ be able to cut the ties, but if he’s not ‘fighting,’ it’s more painted nails than claws. . Given the seriousness put to reviving Aira, her friends likely survived. Would be a bit messy to have this ep feature lengths taken to undo a death just for it to turn out “there are two other bodies, btw.”

It's very much "them". Aira used 'kanojo-tachi', which is the plural form of 'kanojo'. 'Kanojo' means girlfriend but it can also mean 'her' or 'she'. Adding '-tachi' makes it mean multiple people are being discussed, in this case, multiple of 'her'. So, that's how we get "them".

Lee, not sure if you’re still coming back to read this. Unpopular opinion regarding the whole situation here. After thinking about it, I think mum gave up on her daughter and life too easily. I’m not sure what else she can do, but she can do something other than commit suicide. By committing suicide, she’s telling her daughter that she’s given up on her too. Lastly, I don’t think Aira actually meant that both mother and daughter are dead and hope both are in a better place together. I think it’s more on the line of “I hope no one else will suffer like these two did. And hopefully they are free from whatever sufferings they had and will have a better life at this moment.”
