lol.. I saw people debating the translations of Viki and Netflix, personally I like that Viki adds extra context to understand a scene, like some jokes, I don't understand without enough cultural understanding, Viki takes the time to do it.
 
For example " its tradition to eat Tofu when you get out of prison" I recall those occuring in Viki subtiles but not netflix..

Anyways...since I am ignorant on the proper translation...

I really dont care which source we use lol...but viewers do and thats understandable...so when the Kdrama is on both platforms we will use the one that won this poll.

You dont gotta worry about me...if you know Lee...I don't really sweat these details...

I am always intrigued by what people get really invested in...anyways Thank you guys

With Netflix ones you don’t get the jokes and other hidden stuffs honestly. Also, Netflix don’t write hyung as hyung and noona as noona. They just write the names lol And a lot of people don’t understand unless one character doesn’t call them as “it’s my older brother or sister” With Viki is more entertaining and I found out Viki after watching your channel and couldn’t make other reactors watch from Viki too🥲 Because it felt like they’re missing so much:(

Heys guys, I DETEST Viki because they're really bad amateurs. But just as I said in my unbearably LOOONG comments, all that matters is you guys choosing the ones that are easier to read and more comfortable to sit through.

I enjoy Viki for this exact reason. The additonal context. The old kdrama sites before Netflix was a thing used to do it as well so that would have helped with the cultural context by the time i switched to Netflix. I only left Viki when it startrd getting plenty ads

uhhh subtitles are of for netflix but it depends on the kdrama. sometimes its really really really bad. sometimes its not that big of a deal. viki is more accurate but sometimes its so accurae it makes no sense. I was watching a chinese drama and they kept callign this woman flower light. I didnt know that was her name. It was a direct translation of her name. I was like wtf

For me as I've already mentioned in my reply under the episode, I appreciate that viki offers cultural and contextual clues in their translations but the mistakes they make could change a full conversation or more and you would have missed what that entire scene meant vs Netflix being more concise and accurate in terms of meaning and having fully coherent conversations but perhaps not elaborating on some specific customs or double entendres. In the end, all that matters is that you guys enjoy watching the episodes and get the best experience so choose what makes it that for you.

Viki it's better because as you said it, they offer explanations for many Korean terms, some people don't get it but it's a big deal, as a fan of kdramas, I can't imagine watching it without knowing some terms like "hyung" or "noona." I did subs myself for a while in the past (not for English) and I was surprised of how passionate were/are those people without gaining something. Netflix needs to step up, honestly, I mean it's such a big site and it makes sense to do that.

I definitely prefer Viki. Netflix's subtitles make many adaptations to simplify understanding, even if it compromises the relationship between the characters. Since you regularly watch kdramas, it's better to learn these few words and their meanings than to watch a bad adaptation. Another positive point for Viki is the translators' notes that are inserted into some shows, as you yourself have pointed out. One case that you watched these days and would have been better on Viki was episode 5 of Hotel de Luna. There are 4 or 5 translator's notes on Viki, explaining, for example, the red clothes IU wears and the red wire on the bride and groom's fingers.

I don't have viki but I do know that netflix is really inaccurate a lot of the time

The biggest tragedy in streaming platform history is that Viki stayed alive while DramaFever was murdered by AT&T. I'll forever cry about this. They were SO good at localization. That said, between Netflix and Viki, Viki just hits different.

I used to be an anime translator from english to my country language (Poland) and I did got a lot of nice private messages with thanks for putting some remarks to things which might not be too clear if you dont know Japanese culture. So I really like viki over netflix here, although it is not really big difference, both subtitles are good, just little more freedom for viki subtitles makes it more engaging and culturally rich for the viewer. Viki allows translators to include explanatory notes or contextual remarks that help bridge cultural gaps, making it easier for viewers to understand nuances of the original language or culture.

Fam, I felt this in my soul! Dramafever was where I started watching Kdrama's on my own. Beforehand, my sister had introduced me to J and K dramas using MySoju. Since finding Viki after the fall of Dramafever, it is my go to drama site (especially after the recent fall of Kissasian 🙏😩)

I don't have a strong opinion on the matter, as they both have pros and cons. However, for anyone watching Reply 1988 for the first time, do NOT do it on Netflix. By not using certain terms like oppa or noona, Netflix spoiled a major plot point in the storyline. iykyk.

Both are pretty solid in a way. I personally think Viki is better, but I respect that Netflix focuses heavily on Localization in that they'll completely translate things a different way to fit the context of western audiences. Like how they translate "Hyung" (big brother) into a person's name because you usually don't have americans calling each other big/little bro/sis (Half of my family is Chinese, so I'm used to people calling each other xiao, da, gege, didi, meimei, and jiejie.... sibling words)

I do like Viki putting in little paragraphs to explain korean culture things. You do have to press pause sometimes though because those paragraphs sometimes stay up there for 3 seconds. Like how Twinkling Watermelon had a whole paragraph to explain why the Ha Yi Chan makes all those random grunts and weird hand movements (the paragraph explained that he made his personality into the Chunnibiyo main character of the Anime Slam Dunk, so he acts like a whole Chunni Anime Character).

It depends on the kdrama I feel like. I speak a little bit of korean and sometimes the subtitles on Viki can be wrong or a bit off and sometimes that can change someones interpretation of the scene but in my case I don't mind using Viki personally because I can understand to some extent without the correct subtitles anyway and sometimes the subtitles are correct, so I guess it's up to whoever is watching the kdrama which website they prefer (R.I.P kissasian tho, they the real ones)

Oh man, MySoju!!! What a throwback. I started watching on Hulu, and switched to Dramafever because they had so many shows, old and new. Their fantastic Pinnochio subs converted me.
