Copy-paste from an email conversation that explains Tabytha and her alien race.

Tabytha was once human but was infected with avirus that shot her DNA through a forced evolution until she became what

she is now.

The back story of the race is- a single human woman called Angela discovered what she thought to be a life sustaining planet and managed to send out her location to her fleet only to die shortly after. The planet was however agaia, intelligent in its own right and fascinated by the idea of independent, intelligent life forms. It reanimated and transformed the body Angela and put a form of its ownintellect into her.

When the humans eventually landed and started to settle there the planet would start transforming the dead and  those that ventured too far from settlements into its' own life forms, sort of a forced, sped up evolution. If alive these subjects kept their own minds and memories, if dead they started as a blank slates, but all of

them have a very basic telepathy and bond to each other. This race is

neither animal, vegetable or mineral but a combination of all three, tend for have a whole mix of sexual characteristics (futa, herm etc), a very loose grasp on the concept of gender and will have sex with anything that will consent. Some of the race are transformed humans and some are born the normal way, the latter tend to look a lot more weird and alien. Beyond that, no two members of the race look alike as the planet tries all sorts of combinations of characteristics and

traits. Tabytha is a rather mundane example of the race.

Tabytha was changed but escaped the planet with the last untouched humans and now works as a bounty hunter on a pirate ship filled with lesbian mercenaries, this is where she means the protagonist Silk.

I've been thinking about these guys for ages, I'd wanted them for a fantasy project of some sort but was a little burnt out on the genre and its become sci-fi instead.
