One thing that you guys got slightly off. The one that was telling Maomao about Suiren being dead was Lihaku, not Basen. He was the military officer that gave her the hairpin earlier on in the season. He is also the one at the end at the Verdigris house.

That's also why last ep, Jinshi was questioning Maomao that she wasn't excited about the mystery he hasn't fully figured out what triggers her yet, which was why he was freaked out about how excited she got over that cow part

I'm guessing Lakon bought out MeiMei, because she plays Go, and to get close to Mao. Also after last week I read like 2 issues of the manga and they're leaving alot out. Maybe it flows better this way, but having more info makes it better. Fighting the urge not to just read to the end of the arc, or just all of it.

Lihaku was the one who told Maomao about Suirei. You can tell Lihaku and Basen apart only by their hair and eye color. Basen has longer strands of hair hanging in his face and brown eyes while Lihaku has shorter chunkier strands on his forehead and blue eyes.

You’re mixing the guards up a little bit! Shaggy hair boy (I wanna call it an Ash Ketchum haircut so bad lmao) is Lihaku, who was Maomao’s escort to the pleasure district and in love with Pairin at Verdigris House—he’s also the guy who’s generally a little dumb. 😅 Basen is the straight haired one that Jinshi was sparring with in that one episode; I think they might be best friends.

Bare minimum by modern standards maybe, but in the Ming dynasty the show is loosely based on? Jinshi showed her the utmost respect and given his station, what he did was probably quite inappropriate as well. She is a low servant who slept in HIS bed and received care from his personal attendant. He did also promise her the ox bezoar as a reward so that's probably coming soon. The treatment and care Maomao gets is a direct reflection of how much Jinshi cares for her. Idk what you were expecting?
