I think the craziest magic we've seen in this show so far is from Laufen when she fucking teleported

bleach

Frieren needs that teleport spell

DANIEL PEREZ

maybe just like the bird spell having that limit of 50cm the teleport one has other criteria you have to meet to use. like weighing a certain amount and even if you are over that by a little it wont work.or its one of those it uses all your mana for the day so it's best used by magics user that are more on the physical side.

Hasnain Khan

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

_monjiro

Just realized we in two different Exam arcs at once rn with Mashle and this lmao

DatKid_Kaneki

next ep bouta be fye😓😓 we better get a stark only ep where he fight someone

Benaiah Massey

Pretty sure when they were talking about the barrier frieren was specifically thinking about how it keeps the rain out. Which means there is limited watering holes that allows for their plan to work.

Nancchi

That wasn’t Laufen teleporting by definition. If Flash were in this universe, she’d have that name. That spell just makes her move faster than the eye can see.

Le_Lng

Those birds are dangerous bruh. They said the Stilles are as tough as dragons, and move at the speed of sound. Imagine one accidentally crashing into your house 💀💀💀

Danny

maybe she's just physically fast and it's not a spell? idk

pmreez

Frieren so cold man, she taught Fern "you just need the basics, its enough to fold the punks of this era" that's crazy haha

Danny

Also the barrier thing was them realizing there's only a limited amount of locations with water in the exam area so they limited where the stille could go drink.

Lash

She didn’t move the water she just put her mana in the watering holes

godUsoland

Sheera's too petty :D Not even gonna try and fight for the bird?

Gilthwixt

See I'm with Denken, my biggest criticism for this whole arc is how little they seem to value the lives of prospective mages. Like yeah, if they die they weren't cut out to be 1st class...does that mean you just kill off all your unworthy 2nd-class mages? Bro even the military isn't that brutal, if you fail your special forces testing you're still useful in whatever role you had before the test, the military can't afford to kill off all its "2nd bests" 💀💀

Neptune

This show is great but the budget is starting to show at least on the music side. They've used basically the same 3 song sequences for the last 3-4 major fight scenes. Everything else is great though.

Eric Stormbringer

Ten ten really gave up on becoming a ninja and chose mage lol. Excited for this upcoming fight!

Vincent S Deluca

I for one have no issues with this lol it happens a lot, many great anime are similar. And they have fully released the full OST already which is 12 songs-ish, this show also isnt Combat focused so they focused the track diversity elsewhere

Merfhew

I absolutely love Frieren, and I think it was one of the best anime in 2023 (certainly the best of Fall 2023). However, a part of me wishes they'd waited until Spring 2024 to air the 2nd half. Like, a season with 28 eps is a tall order to fill, and while the show still seems to be going strong, I've also noticed a few "budget" moments. Nothing has been majorly *bad* in my opinion, but when you get used to a show being great all the time, even the tiny stuff (i.e. things you'd ignore in average shows) begin to stick out. Meanwhile, the rest of me is like, "Waiting...? God no, keep the new episodes coming!"

lyssa

I know this is random and completely unrelated but watch space dandy once Frieren is over

Neptune

Yeah, I do love this show also but that is really the 1 thing sticking out to me is the music being used. Its a small nitpick but at least the quality of the show makes up for it ill never be mad at a show that is actually animated well.

Devin B

To be fair the 2nd best mages are choosing to take this test of their own accord knowing that it's extremely difficult to become 1st class, plus it's not like the instructors are purposely putting them in situations where they could get killed.

Jarren Jenkins

Bro they took the test knowing the stakes so what's the big deal? You can die in military training too, doesn't even need to be SF. On that too, when you swear in and do all that paperwork shit, you literally sign your life away for your contract. That's why your loved ones get 400,00k if you die at any point in your contract. So yes, the military is fully willing to have you die even if you are "the 2nd best"

Jarren Jenkins

Just saying now, not even worried about Frieren. They tried to get us with her talking about losing nine times in the previous episode. Not gunna work on me. If she said basic magic is all Fern needs to fight other mages of this era, what's this chick gunna do to Frieren? Still hyped for the next episode though

Rikka Hoshikawa

Actually not all of them know the stakes, take a look at the girl with the two hair buns she literally asked Denken why would they have the test area in a place with dangerous creatures. It shows that some of them are just trying to move to the next rank not get slaughtered

Polygon

Don't worry, it probably won't happen until Season 2 or 3 whenever those come, but Frieren and co. do eventually take some fat Ls and get pieced up by some insanely powerful baddies if you're worried about the lack of tension in the series.

Jarren Jenkins

Nah, I don't want Frieren to be another Anos or Cid. However, it depends on the type of loss they get. Don't need to spoil but only someone like Flamme in my eyes can beat Frieren straight up. Or Frieren herself is somehow not on her A game during the fight.

Gilthwixt

Special Forces tryouts generally do not involve being allowed to murder your fellow cohorts lol ain't no way y'all are defending this.

Cheesecake

Roshi was definitely right last week that bird is fucking dead had they tried to get it to hit the barrier

Joe

Seems like they didn't do they studing then cause Frieren look through the books and easily figured out that the test was going to be life endagering + If they can't even detect /fight the monsters how are they 1st class and the monsters don't even seem that strong

Jalani Abdul-Aziz

Yo shawty really flashed step straight to the smoke 😭 I respect it.

Kyle Pacanowski

I have a feeling That Ubel will be even more underhanded than Wirbel. She seems the type that wouldn't mind fighting dirty.

Lūthér Hölâyèãhmé

Frieren is one of the best examples of an OP protagonist. She is far stronger than most of her opponents but dosen't boast, show off, or act better than everyone. Thats why I hate protagonists like Anos and Cid. The only other good OP protagonist I know is Saitama.

Brandon

3:56 Stille: ...You don't feel them vibes?

These Plums

Denken's the goat. If you know, you know.

YUVRAJ SINGH PANJETA

My man Denji really got isekaied and became a mage

SoggySoup

I would be fine with Zoltraak being the only action song ever played XD

2024-01-23 06:32:32 *Sheera explains her plan to let the bird escape if the other team might steal it* Roshi: "That level of petty is actually unmatched." I mean, you could also offer the other team grilled chicken. You know, as a peace offering. And when they ask for the Stille, everyone grins.

Sum1s0mewhere

Basically next week is all about smoke episodes, not just frieren but mashle is also in their chunin exam arc

Polygon

@Jarren You do have to keep in mind that Frieren, while one of the strongest in the series, is not THE strongest. There are other Demons who have lived just as long, if not longer, that are basically Demon versions of her. And while you said that you're not buying into how the show mentions that she lost to weaker foes, the power system in Frieren is very dependent on magic affinity. She didn't just say that for no reason lol. That is a very real aspect of this series' power system, and something that you need to accept. Some characters may not be outright as powerful as her, or have the insane amount of mana that she does, but they just have hax that counter her, catch her unaware (the same thing Flamme taught her to do), or are just plain overpowering. That's why she took the time to explain all the different factors that go into battles between mages. It's the same reason she still gets affected by the powers of all the "weak" monsters they come across, even if on paper she is far stronger.

jordansamuel

Man i love this show, fern got the same energy as frieren and i fuck with it. Looking so unbothered when she’s in a fight 😂

Devin B

Just the fact alone that you need to be accompanied with a 1st class mage to go through the demon continent shows how serious it is to be one. If they're trying to get the rank and they're not able to discern any potential danger that might come there way then how would they be able to cross the demon continent that has way more monsters than this test site. Not saying that it's justified to not forbid killing others but this is just a test run for the real thing.

Jarren Jenkins

@Polygon. I feel you've misinterpreted what I said. I'm saying the show is trying to plant the seed of doubt about how strong Frieren actually is by having her say she's lost 11 times. It would make sense that she has lost in the past, otherwise she wouldn't have the knowledge she has now. I was referring to the upcoming showdown between her and Denken's team (I'm assuming that is coming). Again, I'm not saying Frieren is OP and should be the only OP character, but that she should be bested in a very particular way of either being completely outclassed, or out-maneuvered because of the power system already in place. I know there are characters stronger than her (I peeked and we're about to see one in the next few episodes).

Polygon

@Jarren, Ah, I gotchu. My bad, I wrote that at 2:30 AM haha

AiraKT

Frieren for real taught Fern that all mages in this generation are trash, so basic spells are all she needs

Aragar

Lol the chick fighting Fern basically said "Why do you dribble and shoot like John Stockton?"

Ayoken007

Agree to potentially having a drawback, but disagree to it blowing all her mana for the day. That would be really dumb of her end to engage three mages on while on empty. She would have needed to make a definitive strike on either or both of the girls for it to be remotely worth it. And while Frieren isn't Quick Draw McGraw like Fern, she demonstrated with that plant monster that she is still really fast (which makes Fern's speed even more impressive).

Azrael

This next Denken Squad vs Frieren Squad fight should be hype af

Uni

I like how folks forget the chick in denken's group seemed a little surprised by that fact, it wouldn't surprise if some or a lot more 2nd class mages think the 1st class exam would be a breeze while some know how it really is.

Rishad GB

how is killing so casual and non punishable here? what....man thats scary

Cameron Hall

They're the same type as the one that lifted the carriage a few episodes back

2024-02-18 11:25:12 Basically old times, back in the day of the colosseums, death was an entertainment, the world we live in is basically the same, the difference is that the laws changed over time and our modern day “common sense” was changed by the church, our governments, and our own parents who could’ve been influenced by other people therefor growing us up to be a part of society. How we humans think can change every century/millenium, our common sense of today will be a different kind of common sense in the future generations, be it language, how people treat each other, or even laws, it just depends on government, your believe or even the society u grow up on. Quick example: Vikings belief was Valhalla and the gods and dying in battle was an honor, so they would often prefer to die in a duel to the death than die of old age or anything of the sort, so they would often search for this honor, and going to war wasn’t something scary but something honorable and an enjoyment, cause in their belief their modern life was simply a test given by the gods and their thru ascendancy would be when they reach Valhalla a.k.a death

Vikings didn’t fear death and would often kill a lot cause the more bodies they stacked the higher their chances of being accepted by Odin or Thor, that was their common sense

Trey

Lupa was right those two might need to makeout or something 💀💀

OnePieceMan

It's pretty casual and non-punishable by death even in our world. People get sent into battles and wars all the time. There's tons of underground killing as well. Thing is that most of these things are kept below the surface, but... killing is an every day occurance in most countries. That said, humans have been killers since the dawn of humanity. We've evolved to be this way and to be able to handle killing others. The 'all life is sacred' viewpoint is a very recent one. Might be a nice ideal, but it's not how the world works and it's not how it will ever work. Many of the people involved in preaching this crap from the top layers of society are also ones who kill others either directly or indirectly (but intentionally either way).
