While I completely understand Sheera's point about everyone wanting a great chef on their team, it definitely makes the most sense for Francois to go with the boat. Ishigami Village has always been a fishing village that relied on the sea to ward off famine (with varying levels of success), but the Kingdom of Science introduced them to agriculture and reliable food gathering sources. They also have ovens, vehicles, and other science-y stuff built for the citizens to use while Senku and company are away, so in addition to their reliable food sources, the village has methods of food preparation and storage. The people traveling by boat don't have as many luxuries. Francois prepared food for the journey, but if / when they run out of their stockpiled bread, food will be harder to come by. They have sonar to locate fish, but what if they struggle to come across any? Having a cook who can think on the spot and prepare new meals based on whatever the crew IS able to find is an essential requirement for this journey.

From what I can tell so far, it looks like the only notable characters who were left behind are Ruri (Kohaku's sister), Mirai (Tsukasa's sister), Minami (the journalist), and Tsukasa's frozen corpse. I don't remember seeing Suika on the boat or the cliff, but I might have missed her. Of course, if she wasn't asked to join the voyage, it wouldn't surprise me if she snuck on the boat. They aren't super notable, but I don't remember seeing Jasper or Turquoise on the boat either. Then again, they kinda just blend in with the crowd now.

No, the peeps on the boat need the chef. The chef can worry just about the food and when everyone eats while everyone else worries about the mission and the boat, which takes alot of effort and hard work.

Btw, lupa they can't make cannons or anything like that cause they need nitric acid (which homura blew up in the cave). They said they needed that with the gunpowder in order to make guns so yeah they still have to rely on the big dawgs like kohaku, hyoga (last resort), taiju, etc.

it funny how senku tries his best to skip around ages to get shit done but now he has to follow order to make the engine . think it as this you need a diamond pickaxe to mine it. in minecraft to ge it you need first wood then stone the iron then you mine the diamond to make the pick then it would using that to mind netherite this is why they need to upgrade they tool iron is fine but steel will be best for survival.
