A cool thing about this show is that it’s inspired by a Japanese band called Asian Kung-Fu Generation. The family names of every band member in Bocchi are based on the family names of the band members of AKFG, and they play the same instruments as the members of the other band with their matching names. Hitori Gotoh is based on Masafumi Gotoh from AKFG. They’ve done a lot of popular anime openings, like the opening to Erased, the 7th opening of Bleach, and the 2nd opening of Naruto. This show really took me by surprise, and lowkey became my favorite of the season. The flashbacks to high school social anxiety are too real. I'm glad you guys are checking it out!

Komi feels like she just doesnt know how to interact with others but Bocchi feels genuinely terrified of human interaction and already convinced herself to give up doing so. Plus Komi wasnt a neet either. But yeah Bocchi was definitely more relatable

Hard agree. Zombie land saga is way better. Like bocchi is okay, don’t get me wrong, but people are acting like it’s the second coming of anxiety Christ. Theres been other shows that deals with anxiety and depression way better.

This is one of those shows where being an anime makes it so much more alive than the source material, but one thing I do like about the manga over the show is that every chapter's opening spread is a reference to some J-Rock album cover. It was so fun catching all the references to AKFG, Tricot, Bump of Chicken, L'Arc-en-Ciel etc.

There's literally 0 instances of fanservice in this entire show though. Keep in mind that % thing is pretty much true of any anime with young (or young looking) characters, unfortunately. I think Bocchi got as popular as it did because its subject matter is super relatable to a lot of weebs, and the fact that the animators, VAs and composers wemt way more ham than anyone would expect. They took a mid 4-koma and brought it to life.

calling something mid isn't a point bud. your the classic example of being bias and an idiot rather than bias but not an idiot. Everyone's got a bias and and tons of people like you mistake that for a valid way to critique something. It's obvious you dont and wont understand this but you can not enjoy a genre or creator, trope whatever but still recognize its quality in what its trying to do. I dislike shounen quite a bit and pretty much all of its tropes but I dont let my bias make me an idiot and I can set that aside and appreciate how well they do what they are trying to do even if I still dont personally enjoy it.
