The moment where jupe was doing his show is when it clicked for me. Jupe like many who may face a predator was enamored to the mixed emotion it brings on. Fear, anger, sadness, and anxiety unlocked a dark part of him. When the monkey reached out in forgiveness is when he realizes he enjoys the thrill of being both the pray and the master.

Alellion

I disagree with the conclusion - they DID show in a few ways that the monster was there when the chimp when nutso on set. A) the balloons started popping inexplicably, which is always one of the first things that would happen. B) Animal going out of control because it's afraid (seems animals sensed wtf was up way more), just in that case instead of running as the horses did, the chimp flipped out. How we can tell it was only a momentary thing and not just the chimp going rogue is the fist bump, as well as the way it acted towards the end (just generally confused, almost guilty looking). C.) The slipper which was pointing straight upwards for no tangible reason at the time. This last point is the main factor which I think led Jupe to starting the attraction, hinted by the lingering shots on that same slipper.

lmfao he started sweating again when he thought jupe kids were the aliens 😅

I absolutely love the design of Jean Jacket and how it looks like a UFO but is actually a creature. There are insane biblical references to its design that I think is dope. Angel kept referencing Ancient Aliens from the History channel, which often says angels from the bible could have actually been aliens (like Jean Jacket) that ancient people interpreted as angels from god. Jean Jacket always hung around the clouds and would descend down from them. Clouds would be interpreted as an angel coming down from the heavens. Jean Jacket's extended form taking the appearance of a massive open jelly fish or something that strikingly resembles the design of a biblical Seraph Angel, which is massive with a bunch of huge wings, and sometimes shown with a large eye or many eyes. It looks extremely abstract and almost incomprehensible. I feel like Jean Jacket was intentionally designed to look like a Seraph angel, so it's like its species has been around for thousands of years. Its past versions when seen by ancient people would be interpreted as a seraph angel coming down from the heavens to punish or smite the sinners.

Robert W IV

the power on set would’ve turned off if Jean Jacket was around during that time..

Hueki Yuuki

So I guess this is a movie about an SCP, because there is an SCP that is just like this too lmao

Narutofreak94

Late to the reaction but this was an incredibly well done film. I hope Jordan Peele continues to have recurring cast playing different roles in different films. This was fun and stressful and beautifully done.

Snax

It was a legendary pokemon. She just battled Umbrelloonamon. AirJupe used Hollow Pop and knocked Umbrelloonamon out.

em

old, but i was thinking the same thing-- him misattributing him surviving the gordy incident to an innate quality of himself, hence him saying "i'm chosen", when in reality the tablecloth obscured his eyes, so gordy didn't perceive him as aggressive and did what he was trained to do when he saw jupe: fistbump him. rather than process the trauma, he deified himself as this "monster whisperer".

muxakara!

the thing is though is that it can be around without actually turning off any power. we can see this on a few occassions where it was definitely in their area but its almost as if there is a radius to it. even though that radius is weak if its further way doesn't mean the animals still couldnt sense it all the same. idk im just spit balling here.

JonJon's Kooky Quest

Adding to what the other person said, there’s also some old saying about “waiting for the other shoe to drop”. You could use that phrase to describe what Jupe was feeling while watching from under the table, he’s waiting for the other shoe to drop, he’s waiting for the bad thing that’s going to happen to him (the monkey hurting him just like it hurt everyone else), but it never happens. The shoe never drops for him. You can view the act of him keeping the shoe in the same upright position in a case also as him glorifying and being obsessed with that feeling he had in that moment. But like Dualsona said, Jupe thinks he’s chosen and special because of this.

quxntum

well if we take into consideration the original then no OJ wouldn’t be dead. yes it might have started to suck up OJ and Lucky but we’ve seen OJ almost getting sucked up before and another thing is Lucky still had the rainbow ribbon attached to him and that would’ve started going up as the alien started sucking them in. we know that the alien doesn’t mess with it anymore so it wouldn’t have actually sucked them in.

Vincent S Deluca

The Monkey was was Jupes relation to the Alien/Jean Jacket. When he was a kid, they tried to use an Animal for entertainment and it backfired, killed everyone, but at the end it reached out to him so he didn’t learn his lesson and again was trying to use a wild animal for entertainment and, again, it backfired.

fun fact inspiration for the monster was taken from a bunch of different things and among them was SAHAQUIEL FROM NEON GENESIS EVANGELION. (not out of jordans mouth but he tweeted about the evangelion and the angel a few days before the movie dropped) frys is a tech store that i know for sure they have in Texas. really giant store and fun to go to its like a super walmart sized computer parts and electronics store

Chimps are extremely aggressive and intolerant for disrespect, and one of the many things they find disrespectful is a smile and eye contact. Also known as two things humans do often. They see it as a challenge and will 100% attack you. They are also very hierarchal, go favoritism towards one that is considered on the bottom of the totem pole is just downright an insult. Add onto the sheer muscle they have and things can go wrong very fast. Gordy was inspired by a real chimp that honestly had no business whatsoever being around as many people as much as it was.

Giyuu

Nah yall HAVEEEE to watch the harder they fall that movie is GREAT star studded cast of black actors

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

why lupa forehead sweating so much lmao

Philbo

ive worked at frys lol so i know how that guy feels having to offer all that add on bullshit hahah

Hakurei Oni

The monkey is supposed to be symbolic, I didn't get it on my first time watching either. But the whole theme of the movie is that humans are foolish for thinking they can fully control a wild animal and use them for money. Jupe didn't learn the lesson with the monkey, that some animals just can't be controlled and will turn on you, and he tried to exploit the alien like he exploited the monkey, and it turned on him.

Metweet .c

It is interesting watching people to react to this movie who haven't lived and worked on a farm compared to people who have like on blind wave. Crazy that jordan Pele managed to resonate with people who's lives revolve around working with animals

This is my 2nd watch. So OJ’s stance is that animals are animals, you can work with them but it’s on they’re terms, and you have to be wary. Jupe thinks “animals” are his friends, and even if they hurt other people surely they’re on HIS side…I still can’t figure out the cinematographer’s character though. Was he trying to get the ultimate shot? Was this creature too beautiful to expose to the world?

13

Yall I cant... Lupa out here GLISTENING during that Clover scene

Torrin

The Gordy scene is even sadder when you know that Gordy was confused when he saw Jupe and asked him "What Happened to Family?" in sign language right before he was killed 😭

ThatOneGuy

Quick theory Jean jacket is most likely not alien because of he’s behavioral patterns and the fact that he functions like a hammer shark using electromagnetic waves to locate creatures explaining the black outs

pixie

NOPE: Not On Planet Earth

Nigel Douglas

SPOILERS for the end: my thing with the monkey is that it probably had to do with trying to tame an animal that can´t be tamed just like Lt Anderson said at the start of the movie. Glenn´s character came back and tried tame the alien just like they tried to have the monkey tamed at the start. but theres defintely alot more there

I liked the mass effect joke, fyi they have a mass effect movie. People dont like it because of james but he's a favorite.

Joshua Jimenez

Great reaction! There’s a few YouTube essays about the movie breaking down the themes and I high,y recommend them. They make you love the movie so much more. Roshi and Sheera definitely on the right track tho. Much love!

Isaac

Yeah. Everyone keeps calling it an alien. It's not an alien because there isnt proof ut came from space and its mot even the point of the movie to identify its origins. It's an animal and it has its own quirks and behaviors just like any other.

Derpatron731

If anyone’s wondering why Em ended up taking so many pictures at the end instead of just one when the alien eats the balloon, it’s cause if you take 24 pictures and flip through them fast, it plays like a video. This is in reference to how Em explained in the beginning that the first film ever made of their great grandfather was a bunch of pictures played in sequential order. So if she were to take that on Oprah, she can play it like video in addition to the film Ant took on his camera.

Derpatron731

And the only reason Gordy didn’t attack Jupe like all the others was because the tablecloth was covering his eyes, so it didn’t intimidate Gordy. But Jupe took it as him being “special” or “chosen”, so when he had that run in with the alien Jean Jacket, he started feeding it horses and putting on a show, but he wasn’t special after all. The overall theme of the movie and why it’s connected to Gordy is because people try to tame wild animals and profit off them. That’s why the quote at the beginning mentioned making things a spectacle. It’s why shit went south when they tried to profit off Gordy, when they tried to profit off “An Oprah Shot” of Jean Jacket, etc.

Isaac

Yeah, the point is that this thing is an animal, not an alien. Nobody has proof its not of the Earth and that isn't really the point. The point is that this is an animal people are trying to film. It's difficult to work with animals when it comes to filming them so humans have to learn an animals quirks and behaviors to get it to somewhat cooperate to catch the miracle shot for their production. The horse was difficult and the monkey lost its mind and so did this flying IKEA bed set thing when the *tamers* pissed it off. It acted just like the horse and monkey.

Mal

towards the end im like WHERE IS SUPERMAN LOL

Zarvick

The aliens should take lupa and see why he always sweating during these reactions. Man looks like he can fix California’s drought

Ray

The movie focused very heavily on "spectacle". A supposed 'tamed' chimp in a tv show is a spectacle. Catching a UFO in the sky is a spectacle. And our society loves to try and catch these displays with photography and video; The Oprah Shot in some cases. But we can't always control these spectacles that we're so fascinated with. You can't tame an alien or a chimp. As OJ says, you have to come to an agreement or in this case, kill it, because sometimes, getting that shot is not worth your life (looking at daredevils who risk their lives on TikTok and IG for the clout). That's why OJ survives. He attempts to understand the alien and so he knows what to avoid and be wary of. Very similarly to how he knows horses so well and had to tell the people on set what not to do around them. He never tries to control them, which was what Jupe thought he could do with both Gordy and the alien. And ultimately, that idea that he could "tame the spectacle" was his demise. Great discussion at the end! Glad you guys got to watch this movie.

Isaac

Yeah, we've all seen how animals get on the News during their animal of the month segment. That flying IKEA bed set can't be handled.

Godrick

for lupa.. cowboys mostly farm.. and originally there were just as many black cowboys as not, if not more

Carlos

Adolfo Moreno

I got you lupa 🤣😂 I’m at least one of the people that laughed at the mass effect joke Edit: can’t wait for the fourth installment andromeda was a let down 🥴

Simple Fan

I thought this movie was okay. Things didn’t really start getting interesting until like 40 minutes into the movie. Also I wish they wrapped up with the press seeing the pictures of the alien and them getting their money or something.

Abigail Clark

Honestly what I really loved, was Jean Jacket's behavior. Because watching it through later, YES, ITS ACTING LIKE AN ANIMAL. Its territory is the Haywood ranch to Jupe's because that's where it's been feeding. Jupe thought he could "tame" the monster but he was only telling it "settle down here and you get constant food." (Which is why its dangerous to feed wild animals. they will settle down in that area and start expecting ALL humans to give them food, hence why it started going after the other horses at the Haywood's). It regurgitates stuff it cant eat, the metal bits it sucks up, which it later regurgitates on the house, staking a territorial claim on the area. Whenever people try to stare at it (like the crowd did) it gets viciously aggressive, hence the roaring and snarling. And when it got so pissed off it started to do a threat display to make itself look bigger and more threatening (the "balloon" look it has at the very end after being constantly stared down, which animals DO take as a threat, as constant eye contact means you do not trust the other creature and perceive IT as a threat, thus might attack). Just, man Jordan does so much for his movies.

Chocobo

damn yall dont got AC whats goin on? 😂😂 mah poor boy lupa was soaked, even roshi was feeling it

Rami Homsi

Exactly. Jupe surviving was just a "bad miracle" like the movie says right at the start of the movie, that it was just luck that he survived since his eye's were obscured by table cloth. But he took the wrong lesson away from the experience, started believing that he was "special" and then tried to make a spectacle of the Gordy incident and that he could make a spectacle of Jean Jacket

bakugoat

Lupa gone have to start bringing an extra shirt or something for reactions cause bro be soaking 😭😭

Andrew W

"What in the JRPG Final Boss?" I'm fucking dead

Giyuu

Ok but why was the shoe pointing straight up and the balloons were just popping

Patrone07

Yea but the ufo was the one making them a spectacle hench the biblical quote Nahum 3:6 I will cast abominable filth upon you, Make you vile, And make you a spectacle. For they was obsessed with it so it was like aite bet

Chris

The Gordy thing is basically establishing the rules of animals and how they can't be controlled. They thought that Gordy was working by their rules until he VERY ABRUPTLY was not. And Jupe further took from it that he was special, chosen, because he survived when everyone else didn't. But he survived because of LUCK. The table cloth prevented him from looking Gordy in the eyes unlike everyone else, so Gordy didn't go after him. He took the wrong lesson from it, basically, and assumed the UFO was interacting with him because he was special. In reality, it was because he was feeding it and not antagonizing it. Which, of course, went right out the window the moment he put a dinner platter of people in front of it who promptly stared it right in the face. There's also some stuff with trauma and how people can internalize and essentially become ruled by it in there with that stuff. His language when he talks about the incident is all either violent (crushing it, mayhem, etc) or entirely coached in show business because that's the only way he can process what he went through. Which is another thing that leads to his death: he views this apex predator as a spectacle and a show rather than something truly dangerous.

Elizabeth Darby

Those little kids scared the crap out of me😪😅

Kablamoo101

just to let y'all know the gordy thing was actually a reference to that chimp attack a while back of that woman "taming" the animal

ChickenDinners

How are y'all always getting sick? You guys chilling in large crowds in enclosed spaces often or what? Maybe I just don't get sick often because I'm antisocial and work from home so I rarely leave the house... But yeah, I hope you all get better soon and be careful out there!

Monkai3

Another movie you should watch if you haven’t seen it is whiplash

ItsDualsona

The fucking shoe… I think the shoe is just a case of a “bad miracle” that OJ was talking about, because it’s an occurrence that could never happen but by some string of luck it did, while also enforcing June’s perspective of him being special, witnessing such an occurrence and Gordy not attacking him on sight.

Gyro

Mann those kids in those masks had me STRESSING TF OUT glad it wasn’t just me💀

This was roshi and the gang assessment they made at the end of the show xD everyone could of literally posted something like this but I applaud you eye in catching the table clothe blocking his eye

stanley drury anderson jr

That scene of the people getting digested was so scary bro also I find it very interesting but that final design when it popped out was very “angel” like like what angels are described as looking like at least

IzanagiAce

My understanding of the whole Gordy and Jupe situation and how it ties into Jean Jacket is that due to Gordy calming down and going to fist bump Jupe he thought that he had some sort of special connection with animals. So he tried to form a connection with Jean Jacket and use that connection to become a star again. He even goes and says "You're chosen" at the beginning of his show introducing Jean Jacket.

IzanagiAce

Piece of evidence supporting him thinking he was chosen is him literally saying "You're chosen" at the beginning of the show he was doing to introduce Jean Jacket

SnailSpray

this isnt good yall. seems like the gang might be geting sick, theyve been coughing and stuff for a little bit now. besides sheera tho shes immune

Val

I like to imagine you said all this out loud in a nerd voice while typing it out. Then leaned back in the chair with a smile and said "I sure got em".

Val

They have kids. Kids are sickness factories.

Wrëck

Hmmm I didn’t perceive oj at the end being alive I think em was just seeing him as a “we did good” typa thing it didn’t make sense why he was just positioned like that I would’ve thought he survived if they had him trotting towards her

A.D.Z

Gonna be honest i was not expecting alien stuff in this « horror » movie, the beginning was interesting but it got me bored after some time and toooo long slept during the thing 😭

SnailSpray

this movie had lupa SWEATING

Kori

I loved this movie for how out there it was, was not expecting a reaction. im excited.

Hunter

That's how I see it too; he mistook what happened with Gordy as him being special. That's why he took the shoe, because it was strangely standing up and he assigned to it a symbolism that wasn't really there or at least wasn't extendable to everything else. He wasn't special but he was eager to try and get back to being special by "taming" or "communicating" with the alien.

TomiokaSoul

The theme of the movie is how people bear witness to a "spectacle" (the shoe, gordy, the alien, etc.) That, and how almost mesmerizing they can be which is why, even knowing the rules with the creature, they still maintained eye contact (Angel, Em). I think the movie is exceptionally creative with how they tie everything back together but I will admit, it took 2-3 watches for me to gain everything I could from it lol. As for the popping sounds, I believe that was more foreshadowing for the climax of the movie. Truly a work of art!!

Bad Wolfy

Nope, was dope! 😎🫶

Sabotaj

I felt the theme of the movie was humans trying to profit off of wild animals disregarding the fact that they're STILL WILD ANIMALS. Hence the scene with Gordy returning to his violent primal state after hearing the balloons pop. The people on the show thought they had control of Gordy through whatever training they did with him but at his core he's still a wild animal. The same with the viewing of Jean Jacket at the park, Glenn (Jupe) thought he could use Jean Jacket for his own benefit even though it's still a wild animal and it got everyone clapped. I'm pretty sure Jean Jacket wasn't around during the filming of Gordy's Home though, I think it was just a stand alone flashback to add onto the theme, but that's also what makes the movie scarier because they don't say when Jean Jacket first arrived. As for the shoe my takeaway was that it was meant to be a juxtaposition, amidst all of the chaos, the spattered blood, the trashed set, there's just a shoe gracefully standing upright. Really glad you guys reacted to this movie though, hopefully there will be more Horror reactions in the future, I always enjoy seeing y'all flip tf out.

Yarince Pascual-Mateo

Nope is a movie about how we exploit everything and everyone; we make them suffer, traumatize them, break them, and post their suffering online so we can be entertained. We hurt people and animals just to have a spectacle

Jazmyne Mattucci

I really love this movie alot and idk if anyone else noticed but im p sure OJ might be autistic. (like rarely speaking, needing his sister to talk to new people for him, not making eye contact, even hand twitches like stims, connects with animals more than people) Maybe im overthinking it but it just felt like real rep for me since im also autistic and he just felt....like i was watching me if that make sense?

Renni .

Sheera broke down the subplot well. I felt really bad about the gordy stuff. The kid went through something traumatic and it warped his view on the correlation he shares with uncontrollable forces

Jazmyne Mattucci

idk if anyone mentioned it here but the Gordy scene im p sure was a reference to what happened in 2009 with someones 'pet' chimp going on a rampage after having heavy amounts of zanex in his system. the little girl that got mamed and survived the Gordy incident was what made me realize it. cuz the lady from the 09' incident i think also survived too but their face was never the same. Shit is p insane

Jazmyne Mattucci

Sooo some bad news on that one.....researchers recently discovered that they can indeed swim... Not well but well enough that they dont since to the bottom. So if you getting chased by one, its curtains.

Smash Bran'Discootch

"Is that the first time the Akira Slide has been done live-action?" Um....no, Roshi. No it isn't. That same shot has been used over and over and over again ad nausea in live action cinema for the 30ish years since Akira came out.

David Emerson

no lie, i thought was boring. didn't even feel like 2 hours

Newerk

Nobody: Sheera: "Lets blow it tf up"

Koifull

really? I cant seem to find any LIVE action movie other than NOPE that has used the akira slide... could you tell me which movies have also used it?

Lezu

I haven't left my home since the end of my school semester and still got sick. Make it make sense.

Smash Bran'Discootch

Many movies have used it, but the one that comes to mind readily is X-Men Origins: Wolverine. I'm sure if you look online you can probably find a list or something? Now I will state for the record that it has definitely been used in animation more than in live action due to the difficulties the stunt itself presents. Aaaaaaannnnnnnnd, there is always the possibility that I'm imagining it and it hasn't been used in live action nearly as much as I thought. If that's the case, then I'm just gonna be back here dining on my humble pie with a side of crow.

William

I genuinely love that thing's final design being some out-of-space Lovecraft thing. It doesn't make any physical sense and it doesn't have to, because we were never supposed to see or understand it. Truly, impossibly alien, in every sense.

Newerk

Lol, the first reactors to catch the akira slide

SDaeses

Probably the best breakdown of the movie I've seen so far. n1

Payray

Always love galactic horror, though I hate jump scares

EmoBurrito

Even though I think this movie is totally overrated, I knew it would make for a fun reaction lol. "US" wasn't to my liking either, really want to see GET OUT though.

mj

They should react to the movie LIFE

HIM

Yo, for real, I like how Jordan Peele is basically making his own versions of cult classics, like Signs and the Skeleton Key. The build up is always well done, but like a lot of Key & Peele sketches, they don't hit much in the end. Like, it's a good ending, just like Get Out, but story wise, the ending is just like "wow, that's it? Okay, I guess" lol 😆 Maybe I'm alone on that, but I think the direction and story-telling are on point with his movies👌

Wizkid94

Could we get my man Lupa some ice water before each session?

RF

The Monkey is lit the plot of the movie. They tried to make it a spectacle and kept putting it under so much stress that it eventually just snapped. In the animal kingdom things like eye contact and smiling can be seen as a sign of agression, which is why the monster kept eating people that way, he thought they were being aggressive. See also what happened to the horse after the time skip when pop dies. Jr could see that it was being put under a lot of stress and tried to get everyone to step back and give it space, but they didn't listen and eventually it saw it's own reflection and snapped, almost kicking the shit out of someone. The monster was pretty much just an animal that didn't know any better. Everyone kept trying to poke it and provoke it so they could see it/take a picture of it so pretty much "make a spectacle of it" without regards for it's own health similar to the monkey and the horse. They kept "making eye contact" and tricking it into eating things it couldn't digest that hurt it like the metal horse and the inflatable noodle people and the guy who wrapped himself in barb wire. And then it snapped.

RF

Oops sorry to double post, but also forgot to mentioned that the different "forms" the monster goes through are the different explanations people have come up for the UFO phenomena. A flying saucer/space ship A weather balloon And angels. In the Bible angels are usually described as being "wheels inside wheels covered in eyes" or "covered in wings and eyes"

Grael

did lupa just come back after a marathon? why he so sweaty LOL

Austin Parker

I never played mass effect and I got the reference. All love Lupa bro

Lurkingposter

If you do another movie poll, please add Everything Everywhere All at Once to the pool.

Chris

Ah, must have clicked off before they landed there. On me for missin that they did.

ChickenDinners

you have the correct interpretation. Jordan Peele straight up said this is what the movie is about. It's about our nature to make a spectacle out of everything and act surprised when that spectacle pushes back. He said it also has to do with our modern culture of doing anything possible to get famous.. They were willing to risk their lives in the movie for a photograph.

Tirzah

This was an awesome reaction and I am glad you all were able to catch a lot of the message behind the movie. People do everything nowadays for "the money shot." Something that will give them their five minutes of fame without much regard or conscious thought for the repercussions of the situation. I think the reality check was the scariest part of the movie for me.

Loved the ending discussion. I think y'all were right about what the movie was about. 1. The parallel between a "tamed monkey" and the Alien. You can never completely "tame" a wild "animal." 2. Obsession with "The Spectacle" to the point of not caring about your own life, which relates to internet fame and its dangers in real life. It is kinda funny that the monster ended up being some flying sheets, but it was a complex story which I liked very much. I also liked the individual personalities of the characters, just really loved the acting, slowly revealing plot and mystery element.

I’ve been kind of interested in the topic of UAPs for about a year now I think. Maybe a little more. I'm not an expert, just a nerd with weird interests. Here’s some tidbits that may allow you to appreciate the movie a little more. UAPs are what the US government are calling UFOs now. It stands for “Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon.” The rename comes from the “5 Observables,” which is a method for classifying something as a UAP. The idea is that if something has all these characteristics, it is absolutely unknown wtf it even is. Definitely not a weather balloon, other aircraft, plastic bag, kite, drone, bird, blimp, or anything else that could be in the air. These objects I just listed could be explained by observing its behavior as it moves through the air with something like radar, or a satellite. Radar is much more advance now than the days of pinging dots on a black screen. Observing a balloon, you would see that it moves with the wind, not against it. A bird would make flapping motions. A plane will follow a predictable path that obeys the laws of physics as it flys through the air (no sudden 180 degree change in direction while going 700mph in the air for example). One of these five observable characteristics is being unable to explain how something is flying, or remaining airborne. UAP are not technically flying. They’re performing feats of anti-gravity. The act of flight involves wings, lift, etc. Normal things like birds and planes follow the laws of physics. They are affected by turbulence, wind, and air density. UAPs are not. These things are “flying” through the air in ways that humans do not understand. The UAP in the movie is able to hide in a cloud of its own making without relying on the wind, or wings to stay airborne. Look up interviews with Luis Elizondo. He was assigned this topic while a member of the US military. The one where he does an interview in the UK is the most professional, and concise. They talked earlier in the movie about a navy video. This is real. There was a segment on the investigative journalism show “60 Minutes” dedicated to the topic. There are interviews with navy pilots that detail their encounter with UAPs. There is now new protocol in place for members of the military for reporting UAPs. Before, reporting something like this was avoided at all costs because military members would be removed from service on grounds of them being thought of as crazy. Some of these pilots have described the UAPs that they have seen while out flying missions as a, “cube within a sphere,” “pill or tic-tac shaped,” and even “giant black triangles.” The “cube within sphere,” may have lent to the design of the UAP in the movie. The cube-sphere thing sounds a lot like tesseract, which is a higher dimensional cube (4-D hypercube). We would perceive it in a 3-D space (the kind we live in) as a cube within a cube. If you look up an animation of a tesseract, you can see how as the cube moves through our 3-D space, it kind of folds into and out of itself. Remember how the square, green protrusion on the UAP kind of formed out of nowhere, and kept flaring out layers of green “petals?” Each new layer folded the old layer out of view from our 3-D space, back into its higher dimensional space. Most likely, the UAP in this movie is a higher dimensional being that we can only perceive as this weird floaty-blanket-thing-of-death as it moves in our space. If you want something to compare it to, think “Ramiel” from the Evangelion series. Ramiel was never shape-shifting to protect itself. It was moving its higher-dimensional body through our space, and we perceived it as changing shape. There is an interview with former President Barack Obama explaining that UAPs are real. His production company, Higher Ground Productions, is doing a movie called “White Mountains” that will be based on the Betty and Barney Hill abduction.

So i didnt think the brother died but nobodys commenting about it so i guess i gotta accept he prolly did

Well, there's an interesting point regarding Gordy that no one has talked about in the comments. Here I go: Although it has not been confirmed, Gordy's attack on Mary Jo may be based on a true event due to the similarities that both events share. The fact in question is the attack by Travis the chimpanzee (Also an animal actor) in 2009. Travis had a local reputation for being very nice to humans, not only that, but he lived like one, he knew how to use a PC, he ate at the table with his owners (Sandra and Jerome Herold), watched TV and knew how to operate the TV control. If this is not enough, he also knew how to drive a car. The attack occurred on February 16, 2009, at which time Travis was receiving medication against Lyme disease (The medication may have affected his reasoning, although it was later confirmed that it could have to do with a Tea with Xanax that Sandra gave him in the morning of that day) and his victim was Charla Nash, a friend of Sandra's. Although Travis knew Charla, she had a different hairstyle than usual, and was holding an Elmo stuffed animal, which was one of Travis's favorites (Perhaps a reason why the chimpanzee got angry). Mary Jo portrays Charla Nash, Sandra's 911 call can be found online and remains one of the most terrifying in history. Charla is still alive, but she lost her hands, eyes, nose, and the bone structure of half her face. In conclusion: It is a great film with a strong criticism of consumption, capture and permissiveness of what we call "spectacle".

Lol peele would come up with an entire story thats basically jaws, but its black ranchhands fighting a literal angry KKK sheet in the sky. lets gooo.

Another fun fact: There is a monster race depicted by H.P Lovecraft called Flying Polyps. They’re creatures from outer space and are described as aggressive and predatory. There are many similarities between them and Jean Jacket: - They are flying monsters that can become invisible whenever they want. - They are capable of manipulating wind and weather. - They exist only in the loneliest most uninhabited parts of the world. - They can be noticed by the horrible whistling and screaming sounds they make as they pass by. - They are fluid in form and able to change and distort in shape and size - They attack people by using vortices of wind either to suck people into the sky or to blast them and send them tumbling. - They really, really hate to be noticed and become violently aggressive towards anyone that perceives them. - They appear to function with some degree of non-Euclidean geometry.

Mavereth

That must have been the most ridiculous looking alien ive ever seen lmao

Yeah I think you were getting to the themes most people arrive to a consensus on by the end of your guys’ discussion. The themes of “spectacle” and the misguided anthropomorphizing of non-human (wild) animals, how show biz/Hollywood will “chew people up and spit them back out”. Jupe thinking he had made a connection to Gordy the chimp (also notice how Jupe’s view of the chimp’s eyes were covered by the table cloth, connecting his survival with how to survive JJ) is definitely meant to parallel how Jupe thought he had a connection with Jean Jacket. Besides sea creatures (who often expand their stomachs out to feed) like Sand Dollars, Jellyfish, etc. being an inspiration for Jean Jacket’s design, I think Peele’s production notes also stated that the Angels from Evangelion were a source of influence on JJ’s design. Also the core/inner-mouth of JJ was also meant to resemble the lens of a film video camera IIRC.

Lupa I also only recognize that man as General Anderson, so I chuckled indeeed.

@Davon Thomas cold weather can weaken the immune system but it doesn't give you a virus or anything. So you're more likely to become sick while cold but it doesn't give you a sickness. People transfer viruses and bacteria.

wait lmao some people thought Nope was an option to just not watch any of the movies well at least l got the the movie l wanted

We need more scary/thriller movie reactions

So unless youre a hardcore national geographic enjoyer i think the real "perspecitve" of the animal is lost on people. Its not evil it just hunts. It uses the RIbbon box inside of it like a lure. It hypntoizes you kind of. Not a real trance but it draws your attention. but its behavior is that it strikes anything that is looking at it because thats how it chooses prey. Physically there is nothing stopping it from just swallowing up anything it sees but its still based on instinct so it will follow what its used to doing. Look at it and it eats you. The ribbons snapping is also whats causing the loud clicks inside of it in its Disc form. In real life the closest thing to this is a fish that has a small dangle on its tongue so that small fish freely expose themselves to its mouth before hunting. It also learns what to avoid eating and will be aggresive towards other creatures in its territory. A weird side note is like tigers. Some oof them have white spots on the backs of their ears, which in turn causes other tigers and predators to not think they can sneak up on another tiger because they are being watched even from behind. So those traits survive the most. THis creature has an extremely simple design. Evolutionarily speaking the simplest designs are normally the most effective. It looks similiar to a jelly fish and functions the same way its membrane may even be slightly hollow in structure. It can float with the same density of its surroundings even upon death its "corpse" floated laterally which means its very biology doesnt require it to be alive to fly or float. That being said the strength of that tissue is called into question since physically speaking, an exterior force cannot apply pressure greater than the force necesary to destroy it. For example, if you squeezed a waterbaloon in your hands, but then the waterbaloon explodes your hands. WHich leads me to think the interior membranes of JJ is stronger then the outside. The averag ehot air baloon is around 80 feet tall and has almost 77,000 cubic feet of air inside it. For JJ to squeaze somethin smiliar it would yes need to either puncture the outside under immense pressure, or squeeze it SO hard that the baloon itself ruptures. But the force required to do that would mean the baloons explosion would be contained. My theory is that used its "wings" appendages in its angel form to wrap and squeeze, but the "throat" or digestive pathway was weaker and the part of the baloon that popped sent all that air through the weakest part of JJ. It sort of "shot itself" with the air inside the baloon. I also enjoyed the Biblical implications of this creatures history and clearly there are more of them. Also the governemtn may not be aware of them i think the zone it lives in may be mesing with the satelite feeds and blurring the area.

Bro was there no way to paraphrase this ?

Damn and I thought I made long comments… look like the beginning of a Star Wars movie

YungZeus

I could listen to Michael Wincott’s voice all day. The stomach scene reminds me of War of the Worlds

There’s no proof that it’s always been there….

Haaa?

its been so long since i was able to afford a membership. But seeing this reaction posted on youtube finally made me decide nows the time 😭

Phrilly

Should watch Arrival sometime. Would be a great follow up to this.

Iggy

lupa wearing a kirby shirt is very fitting for this movie

Some people were confused about the monkey scene, but it showcases Jupe's trauma, and need to feel that type of rush again. Being so close to something that could kill him but coming out unscathed. That's why he messed around with the alien, he wanted that type of experience again

So just for reference, the ending where Lucky and OJ are baiting the creature away from EM, you see that they are actually being pulled in. Notice how the dirt and wind are moving at the hooves of lucky. The scene switches to showing Em powering up the bike. Right when this is happening your hear the shrieks of lucky. Indicating that OJ and lucky have been eaten. Fast forwarding to the end, you see Em close her eyes for a brief moment, right before she's envisioning OJ and lucky under the "Out Yonder" sign. Some key takeaways here are that you cant fully make out OJ, the smoke and dust make him seem more like a vision and ethereal; noticeable the Out Yonder sign makes it seem like he's beyond reach or dead. A lot of people like to think OJ survived but he really didnt unfortunately. He chose to sacrifice himself for Em

Nope. The screenplay clearly states that he is really waiting for her and not a vision.

Overlord Saber

This is not 100% the outcome, people are still speculating about it as we speak. Which I love in a movie ending

Lamaree Jackson

I’m so glad I actually enjoyed this. Us didn’t do it for me. I was worried at first that this would be super vague or not a real monster like the Village, and the movie is just about real life messages and lessons instead of a still structured movie with a story. Like don’t list your movie as suspense horror when the scary twist is that it’s 2004 and white people don’t like change (duh). Sorry for ranting about the Village.

Tina L

I had no idea that people voted Nope thinking it was a None option. I voted Nope fully knowing it was a movie.

When he goes to sleep in the car. One of the best character moments i've ever seen.

I read all of it and omg it makes sense thank you for taking the timeout to put this together and share it. Yes it’s hilarious how it was long 😭 but thanks now I got a better perspective

Victor Grubbs

I’m SO glad you guys got this movie. Not liking it is one thing, but not understanding it and then saying that things were pointless is frustrating. I’m happy that you guys liked it, but I’m even happier that you understood that it was about how people view spectacle and that Gordy’s part was more thematically important than plot relevant.

Mr.PTMF

You're almost there, it's not exactly the rush but more so he thought he had a real connection with Gordy, and he feels that's same connection to this beast but it's misplaced just like when Gordy attacked. Gordy didn't attack jupe because jupe was focused on the shoe standing up and didn't make eye contact with Gordy

baja

the first 3/4 of the movie was genius. this feels like the essay you come up during high school exam. you spend all your time to come with a cool idea until you realize you have 10 min to write the end of the story

baja

the shoe i think is tied to the miracle aspect of the story. like somebody already mentioned, the story revolve around " we dont deserve the impossible"(aka miracles). where miracles are only witnessed when EVERYTHING goes south. The shoe the monkey returning back to the fist bump The aliens true form and the last shot

Reckless Company

The screaming when the 2 one came out hell nah i would have been gone

Son… “I swear on my wife’s and children’s lives… I see a flying saucer.” Welp he was wrong, he did not see a flying saucer, he saw a wild animal, and it swore on his family’s live. Rip.

Arc

Listen, right after the situation with the kids in costumes I would've lit up the entire farm. No dark corner left in my area.

Subsub537

Idk if I’m right or not but I always thought that Jordan wanted to make a movie based on how people view terrible situations. Well more towards how people respond to it. The Gordy accident was cool because it showed us Jupes way of thinking towards animals after that. Jupe responded to it by making it a spectacle, or a miracle. Instead it was just a horrible incident in his life.for some people it was hard to connect that scene to the plot, because to us, it was a random horrible incident. For jupe, he decided to, instead of dealing with in a normal way, but make it a miracle! OJ saw a giant flying alien, which is a terrible thing to witness, but he decide to make it somewhat of a miracle. A bad miracle. He wanted to capture it for the work to see. To make himself a spectacle.

Subsub537

People would rather capture a horrible moment on camera and make it a miracle instead of realizing the real tragedy during that moment

returntolife

am I the only one that hears that high-pitched noise in the background.

does anyone hear that humming sound?
