Remember how Bakemonogatari was originally 12 episodes, then they aired the last 3 like a year later? They pulled the same shit with this season. There are 5 more episodes that got pushed back. For some damn reason, most of the downloads/streams for the show still count those 5 episodes as a different show, despite the fact that the Blurays have had them listed as episode 10-14 of Second Season for almost a decade now. Anyway, do consider making time for those 5 episodes before you take a break if you can.

My favorite dialogue in the series is probably this episode with Kaiki and Ononoki. The reveal of Kaiki’s actions, that he once tried to help Senjougahara but failed, makes him feel tragic compared to the villainous Kaiki we were introduced to in Nise. Watching this arc from his perspective we can see he really doesn’t seem like a bad guy at all, and this confirms it. But my favorite part (and maybe I’m interpreting this wrong) is his response to Ononoki seeing through him- bitter sarcasm as his only response as his character is completely exposed. And finally, when Ononoki tells him he will fail again, we see actual anger in his eyes. He is upset that he tried to help and failed Senjougahara, and he refuses to do it again.

That scene in Nise where he tells Senjougahara that the cult leader she hated randomly died in a traffic accident takes on an entirely different meaning after this arc. That's what I love about this show in general. It LOVES to make you think you understand something, then turns around an re-contextualizes it.
