Justice Society predates the Justice League. Doctor Fate (Kent Nelson) was a member of the JSA in his prime before the Justice League. The show has referenced them a bunch of times, especially the first season. The perfect introduction to them would be Stargirl. Currently 2 seasons with 13 episodes each. Also an excellent show with solid production values.

I thought when phantom stranger said this all started because of an idea and we switched to Zatanna contemplating from episode 9 that was the moment she came up with the idea to have her disciples rotate with the helmet? If that's the case she didn't plan it from the beginning and isn't so morally dubious, did i read that scene from phantom stranger wrong? And if i did what did he mean?

I think Phantom Stranger was saying that the chaos was caused by the moment they showed Zatanna hesitate in the flashback which is when she thought of the idea of freeing her father. That's what stranger meant by an act of love.

I'm really anooyed with how they're handling beast boy, like his depression is an interesting topic, but you keep under cutting with more interesting plot lines about huge super hero shit. Just make an episode focus on him, taking step to get over it instead of dragging it out and making it annoying. It works in shows like bojack because that's the main focus, not super hero magic power shows.

I’m sorry Sheera but I gotta disagree on this one. There is no way you can tell me that Zatanna solution without saying anything is even close to morally acceptable. Even if they agreed to it now it’s BS because she’s using the guilt and sympathy of this whole situation AFTER THE FACT to use the kids as bargaining chips. They came to help people and put their power to use to save the world and others, not sacrifice themselves so she can have happiness with her dad. JUSTICE SOCIETY EXPLANATION: Before the Justice League was founded, there used to be another super hero team called the justice society, the founding members were the first human green lantern (Alan Scott), the first flash ( Jay Garrick whom we've seen a couple of times), Doctor Fate, Red Tornado (which was shown in season 1), Hawkman, the first black canary, and others. Wonder Woman, batman & Superman used to be members in older comic books but that was retconned because if they were in the justice society they'd be old af. The Bus Driver recognizes Dr Fate from the justice society because he comes from the past, before Dr Fate joined the Justice League (at the end of S1).

I for the most part agree. What it is is manipulation on Zatana's part. It's like if you were given candy for free every day for a certain period of time but then suddenly you are told if you want more candy you just need to provide a small service. You don't give people information after they've been ingraciated because self-consciously they'll think they may owe that person who has gifted them said chance or they can think that if they don't do what's requested they'll lose out on the good experience they've been getting. Manipulation albeat for a good cause/reasonable solution.

I noticed that they kinda pulled a “Young Justice” within this episode. They let the younger newer teen heroes be the front stage and the clutch for winning, and pushed Zatanna and Fate more to the side. Reminds me of season 1

Honestly I like how there doing the Beast Boy storyline and now I’m getting more fearful every time it’s on screen cause it feels like it’ll end with him overdosing or killing himself. If that’s the case then this kind of build up would be good rather than 1 or 2 episodes showing his struggle

Honestly, in the case of Zatara and Zatana, I ain't mad at her for doing that. Suffering without a father who is alive and held hostage for the greater good for 10 years just to see him 1 hour per year is garbage. I don't blame her for doing that. I don't blame her for taking advantage of good willed people who are willing to sacrifice their lives for a good cause in other situations that'll torture & kill them. This is a good cause despite how fucked up it was because in the end it's still underhanded manipulation of good faith. Them volunteering out of their good will makes it very easy for her. The guilt of that won't outweigh the happiness she gets out of it with her father. Good. For. Her.

Zatanna may not have forced them, but she did manipulate them. They look up to her as a mentor and an idol, and they're young. They'll do what they can to please her, despite what's best for them. Also that wasn't Mary on Apokalips. It was Big Barda, on of the Valkyries. You saw them last season when they were working under Granny.

This is such a unique season, focusing on characters an arc at a time is cool, but it’s also weird to get basically no nightwing for half a season I’m also not sure how I feel about this arc specifically. Zatanna feels like a side character in her own story focused arc, like yeah she saves her dad at the end, but overall it didn’t feel like the arc as a whole was as personal for her as the first two and their leads.

I knew with this being the mid-season finale we would find out something about where Superboy could be; I guess since this show is called phantoms somebody had to be a ghost lol. Nevertheless, Zatara not getting killed off was a surprise but nice to see, it kind of reminded me of how Hawkeye seemed like he was going die in Age of Ultron and then didn't. Also, I like Khalid turning Child inside out, because it's like poetic justice of what she did to that security guard in the first episode of this arc. Lastly, I think the magic battle could have been a bit more creative but perhaps because of budget constraints they could only do so much. Overall, a decent mid-season finale.

I think Sheera (not sure if I'm spelling that right.) is right, I don't think that the plan from the beginning was to sacrifice the kids to the helmet. when the stranger said that Vandal didn't cause this but an act of love did, and they showed Z hesitating then calling them her best students, I think that was when she decided to try and get fate to rotate between them.

I actually like what they're doing with Beast boy, even though I will admit a team full of heroes probably would be able to sniff out depression from a mile away. I think what he's going through makes sense, I've been there. It's like nothing matters anymore so why should you even try. You don't want to move, you don't want to speak to anyone. You want to be alone. Not everything needs a character arc and I don't think this does. Depression is hard to beat and I appreciate the studio for letting it sit and fester and feel real. To me at least.

The problem is that whether or not it feels real, it's not entertaining to watch and it doesn't feel naturally incorporated into the plot, since Beast Boy has fuck-all to do with anything for the past 9 episodes. You could have shown him two or three times and gotten the same message across. We don't need to check in on how depressed Beast Boy is every single episode when there's cooler shit going on. Like, can you imagine if back in season 1, we had to check in with Zatara every episode and watch her cry about her father? At some point you'd just stop sympathizing with her and turn it into a goddamn drinking game.

I have mixed feelings about them all taking turns wearing Dr. Fate's helmet. I understand where Roshi is coming from if Zatanna's plan was to do that from the very beginning when she took on protegees and should have asked them before hand, but I also understand where Sheera is coming from because that was literally the only way to free her Dad and it could have developed into a plan later. Plus, it was not forced because Traci and Khalid could have said no and she would have accepted it, and she included herself in the equation. It's not just going to be them wearing the helmet, but her as well. In my opinion, it would have been more fucked up if she did that without including herself in the mix. So, it's fucked up, but it also isn't. It's a very morally grey area. And I wholeheartedly agree that Mary DID NOT need a turn wearing Dr. Fate's helmet. Because if she would have put that helmet on, forget Nabu not wanting to release her, Mary, herself, wouldn't have taken the helmet off due to her addiction to power. And now Granny Goodness is manipulating her due to her power addiction. Mary and Garfield are the ones that broke my heart this episode. And here I thought it was going to be Zatara lol.

Idk. This episode seems to imply that Mary turns dark. Since Nabu is the one that takes control over the host body, Mary probably should’ve been the one to wear the helmet, thereby avoiding her flip sides (if only temporarily I suppose)

I don’t get why the disembodied spirit thing was used for Superboy instead of Wally. What about the bomb caused that? They could’ve brought the speed force into existence by having Wally’s spirit running around in the void at the beginning and end of space/time where Klarion was traveling.

Sheera kept contradicting herself in her argument. First she's saying it's okay because they agreed to the plan. But then says if they new that they would end up as Fate lackeys then they wouldn't have agreed to learn under Zatana. The entire premise is that she tried to impress Nabu with her students and took advantage of their trust in her that she's built up through out their time together just to free her father. Sheera is just proving Roshi's point that Zatana basically took her relationship with her students as an opportunity to used them for her own selfish reasons, even if that wasn't the initial reason she took on students.
