I always like how this episode shows that even Kamina was aware that he was just a big talker without Simon to be his motivator. Even the phrase "Believe in the __ that believes in you." has a lot of meaning to never give up on yourself, a very inspiring quote.

This episode is my favorite episode out of all anime (or at least it was for a long time, I've watched a lot more anime since then). Kamina was one of the first characters I ever actually grieved for. The scene where Kitan mentions Kamina to justify his plan and everyone on the bridge flinches at his name was really powerful to me, because I reacted to it exactly like they did. Seeing Simon break out of his depression and find his way is what helped me process it. So glad you guys are reacting to this show!

Yeah this is one of the best episodes of the entire series, where you really get to know what the show's about. I especially love Leron when Simon is giving his speech. Everyone else is surprised, but Leron just nods approvingly because unlike the rest of them he knew Simon had it in him and was just waiting like Lagann for him to step up.

Yoko probably was where Simon was when her friends died. Instead of grieving properly she just kept it in, given the fact that its a constant battlefield I don't blame her. So Kamina came and gave her something to grieve over she closed up again cause she can't afford to lose anyone else. That's why she's being hard on Simon, its less malice and more the grieving process for both of them. Which is why they both need Nina who knew nothing of Kamina and is naive enough to show positvity vitures to the two that are actively ignoring the reality of the situation. For Yoko, its ok to feel, its natural. You need to be about express your emotions so you value what you loss and what you have. For Simon, he needs to look deep within himself and see that what made him the way he was, wasn't Kamina its all Simon. They both just going through it.
