Does anybody who actually knows wtf they're talking about know what's the correct watch order for the series cause I've looked at a bunch of different sites and a lot of them say different things, except that bakemonogatari is the beginning.

Bake, Kizu, nise, neko, mono second season, Hana, tsuki, owari (first season), koyo, owari (2nd season), zoku owari is the intended viewing order. The only confusing thing is Kizu, which was the second book but the movies came out way later

There is novel release order, TV animation order and chronological order and I'd say go for novel or TV.

This is also the airing order, you can also watch in chronological order but that's better for a rewatch

Yeah I checked for air date lists but some had kizu after bake and others had another so that's why I was confused

I thought there were going to have a more difficult time with this show, but it seems they are fast on getting must of it, is going to be good, also onces you get into suruga fight the show gets pretty easy to follow.

After many years I still love it how Bake puts details in just a few frames. When Araragi enters Senjogahara's house - just a glimpse (we see his perspective) is enough to tell she is living in poor conditions.

The first time I tried watching this show, I wasn't feeling it and gave up partway through the first episode. I gave it another shot when I saw it was winning your poll, and I'm so glad I did. It's a trip. I just wish I knew Japanese, because there's a lot of wordplay going on.

Strange, weird, all these words are understatements. This show is wacked. The dialogue flows from one to another much fluid than the animation. I remember constantly rewinding scenes just to properly digest what they were saying. I hope you stick with it. It's worth every time invested in it despite being overhyped by a lot of fans.

It's one thing when there's ecchi for no reason and ruins a scene in an anime but the ecchi aspect in Monogatari is one of its strengths.

I always struggle to explain this show in English because there are many word play and kanji stuff for example Shinobu in Japanese is 忍 刃 is blade and 心 is heart, so its heart under blade but great to see u guys reacting!!

Hanamonogatari is supposed to be watched between episode 10 and 12 of Second Series. It was originally just supposed to air there, but SHAFT realized there was no way in hell they were going to fit all 6 story arcs within 26 episodes and had to cut one (then it turned out that the 5 stories they animated only took up 23 episodes, so they had to make awkward clip episodes to fill the other 3 episodes of the season). They did eventually release it on its own as Hanamonogatari. It's not THAT important, but Second Series feels a bit incomplete if you don't watch it before the finale.

When Nekmonogatari (white) through Koimonogatari aired on TV, they were called "Monogatari Second Series". I didn't even realize modern releases changed the title so each arc was its own series.

Pay attention to her answers and the questions they all have relevance in other gatari series. Especially about her first love it becomes part of a huge plot twist later on in one of the other series. Also while the weight thing was a metaphor for emotion she really was ACTUALLY weightless. The show is very tongue and cheek and the metaphor manisted into reality. Wearing clothes and stuff for her was actually painful and a burden.

the Weight thing was just a joke at the end. even in the novels its not relevant and was alluded to as "gods are kinda dumb and lazy" it was implying the crab returned the weight but was too lazy to figure out who the right one to return It too ( remember oshino said gods view humans as all the same it cant discern weight or gender or anything ) so it gave it to araragi on accident. Its not relevant tho because she did get her weight back and his returns to normal so it was meant to be a joke at the end of this chapter. You could also look at it symbolically of araragis character because the entire series is very much about him taking on the weight and emotional burden of others especially senjous since they will essentially be a couple from now on lol and he's her emotional rock.

Everything in this series is a stupid pun. 重い (weight) and 思い (feelings/emotions) are both pronounced "omoi". Since we use "weight" in English to mean "a heavy burden", most people can piece together the jist of this arc without much problem. A lot of the later ones are completely nonsensical kanji puns that require doing shit like taking kanji out of context to understand. Pretty much EVERY single conversation in the show has some level of subtle wordplay going on. The official English releases of the original novels are fascinating because they actually attempt to adapt a lot of the wordplay in English instead of throwing their hands up and going "fuck it, it's not important" like the anime subbers.

U guys will def need a break after every season lol. I took a long ass break after Monogatari Series S2 and still am. It was freaking amazing but so much shit happens in each season that u just gotta take a break each seasonal watch.

If you want to get real technical ALMOST all anime is pedo bait cause they always want to make stories about school students. Especially when they feel it necessary to add fan service to it. That is why I always tell people they need to learn how to look past this shit before jumping into anime because a large number of them involve this sort of thing

That's why Roshi and Sheera are GOATed. Hands down the best, most entertaining reactors and even better with Lupa. I think the ecchi stuff will be okay. Unlike other anime like Prison School which they really liked. This show doesn't use ecchi too much as comedy and more so like actual fan service. So we'll see... it can go either way.

So fun fact on the word play thats going on : In Japanese 思い meaning thought or feeling And 重い meaning weight or heavy Are both pronounced the same " Omoi" Whats more God is pronounced Kami and Crab is pronounced Kani Hence the emotion god and weight crab.

lol the ending is just a funny cliffhanger. oshino mentioned that the gods were very careless so it was just a mistake that arargi got hit with the extra weight. not important since it doesnt show up its just a comedic moment.

I hope you enjoy this anime! I started watching broadcast order until i started suspecting some things that seemed out of place. I later found out the release order is NOT in chronological order. I personally liked it best in chronological order but that is up to you guys! The anime is still really great and a lot of dialogue

I watched it in LN order. Kizu was actually suppose to come out 2nd after Bake, but due to airing and censorship issues, it was delayed for a while -- hense, it was suppose to be 2nd in the order, but never came out until later... which is why i follow LN order.

Just have to say, if the fanservice is driving you up the wall in this episode, you're gonna have an aneurysm later on. This is one of my favorite anime, but it can definitely be a bit overwhelming.

not gonna lie, idk why people recommended this show so heavily to yall knowing how you guys feels about constant unnecessary fanservice,,, the constant unnecessary fanservice in monogatari used to be one of the big selling points of the show and the fact that its so unrelenting is partly to keep the (**japanese understanding**) audience’s eyes busy during the long stretches of dialogue,,,, hope hachikuji doesnt turn you guys off on this series too much tho because the story would be perfect(IMO) without all the weird shit

Ok so I got this from someone else, and I never knew this when I watched the show, but APPARENTLY the "black screen" moments, represent the times that Araragi closes his eyes. He is the focal character, and since he is unable to see his surroundings, neither are we, the viewers. I thought that was pretty interesting.

Actually everything in the show is from his perspective. Its also why theres so much weird imagery, because it's more his impression of what's going on than the literal of it. Also why the show tries to make him look "cool" even when hes getting his ass beat, because he's telling the story from his point of view, and trying to make himself look good. things like the infamous "walk her home gently" meme. LITERALLY all he did was walk her home and be nice a bit, but they way he tells the story is vague enough that you jump to the conclusion that he got sum. Except later on in the series he gets outed as still being a virgin.
