Looking back I don't think it was just a test, since in some episodes prior when the azure messenger situation happened. He wanted to save her and him and Dazai had a conversation which ultimately was about not being able to save everyone, so he was both testing her and the logic he was told and was happy that things played out well

Because, as we see in this episode, he's an incredibly loose cannon when it comes to Atsushi. Though, one could argue that he recognized that his regen ability forced him to "strike to kill" if he wanted to subdue him (as seen when he stabs him through the heart just to kidnap him).

if you want some more suggestions for anime I'd strongly recommend Great Teacher Onizuka. Its an older anime but its one of my favorites

I was hoping they would notice that abilities are named after their most recognized literature work from Francis' ability. That guy from the guild is Francis Scott Fitzgerald best known for writing The Great Gatsby. Well, hopefully they will get the reference with that member from the guild and his flying 'whale'

I mean he did see him regenerate his leg, but that's a pretty big gamble to go "well he can regenerate one of his his appendages, so it will probably be fine if I destroy his heart". Not exactly the kinda mistake you get a second chance on.

Lol I feel like a lot of ppl overestimate Dazai on the physical ability when beginning to watch the series. Dazai isn't excatly known for being a good fighter physically.
