so if you guys didn’t exactly know, yes the characters are heavily referenced by books. each character is actually named after a real life japanese author, poet, etc. even their abilities are referenced by their irl counterparts writing.

They probably thought it was weird for a sister to be all lovey dovey with her brother like that and just assumed she didn't mean it literally when she called him brother. They forget that that kind of thing is normal in anime.

Thanks for your reaction! You guys wont probably see this and it will probably get lost in the comments, but i'll try my luck. One of the most interesting and fun thing about this show is how it is heavily inspired by real life authors (like mentionned in previous comments). Like Osamu Dazai's character obsession with suicide is because the real life Dazai attempted multiple time to take his life, before sadly drowning himself in a canal with his wife. This is also probably why the first time you see the character, he is trying to drown himself and why he is also always trying to find a woman to commit double suicide. And for the character Junichiro (orange haired bomb dude) his sister, Naomi, is actually a character that the real life author Junichiro wrote. She is basically portraited as "sexually aggresive". In his work, she is extremely manipulative and manages to take control of her relationship with the main character. That's probably why in the show, she acts the way she does. Anyway, I wrote a brick, but I think you can enjoy the show even more when you know about some of the inspirations for the characters and why they act a certain way.

I think they referred it in the first episode when they saw the ADA gang, they said "Sherlock Holmes" when they saw Rampo if I remember correctly. They are not wrong, but character Rampo Edogawa "is" author Rampo Edogawa and is inspired by him and his works. I just don't know if they are aware that the characters "are" the author. I hope I make sense!

they arent actually sibling, they are base of the book by jun'ichirō tanizaki called noami, it somewhat about lovers who pretend to be siblings so they can live together (japan was very conservative in the time this was written)... it's pretty obvious that Juunichirou and Naomi are not related by blood, but that they only act like siblings, as a nod to the original author.
