Ya know, watching this reaction has made me think about the chimera ants again, and like its almost sad, how fucking little of a chance they stood. They got absolutely clapped by just one bomb. Like they sent in the hunter association to avoid diplomatic issues. Like tragic, thinking about how fucking hopeless the king's initial dreams of world domination were in the long run.

Well they were lucky that Mereum decided to stay at his palace for as long as he did instead of immediately moving out and attacking all of the other countries and what not. If anything, the 5 main world governments would be forced to drop a rose on top of a whole city that Mereum would be busy wrecking havoc in. Even then, Mereum can probably see a nuke coming at him from the air and react in time to avoid it. You'd need to sneak attack him in the same vein as Netero suicide bombing himself right in front of Mereum. That's also not considering the fact that Mereum would go on to develop more kings that would have their own hives and ant armies and what not. It'd surely develop to a point where one simple nuke wouldn't cut it. Not to mention if Mereum was to attain knowledge of the existence of nukes then humanity would really be fucked because he'd learn to anticipate such a huge threat. Basically, humanity got super lucky with the way things developed in the story because it could've gotten way worse than the way it ended up being.
