By now the Tarrlok, Amon, Yakone and Zuko, Azula, Ozai comparisons are talked about a lot, but one thing I caught rewatching ep 9 is that Tarrlok was put in the exact same position Zuko was when they both captured the Avatar. They both succeeded, but both had horrible/no escape plans afterwards. Like really Tarrlok, you gonna just bring Korra wherever you go forever? It really shows how an Iroh figure can make a huge difference in your life.

From an interview with one of the creators, Bryan Konietzko - “ We have often shown the healing side of the waterbending arts, where a practitioner helps the chi to flow more vigorously through the meridians in the body. Bending occurs when a person has the ability to extend the influence of one’s chi past the limits of one’s physical body and into a particular element. Amon used bloodbending, the act of bending the fluid inside one’s body, to break these meridians in key places, severely disturbing or blocking the chi’s flow and impairing one’s ability to bend.” Youtuber “hello future me” has some great avatar theory videos, but they are full of spoilers, so I wouldn’t watch them until you’ve finished atla and korra. He does a great job of weaving together little clues and such to fill in some holes and even resolves plot some possible plot retconns in well thought out ways (too thought out sometimes).

No, Tarrlok didn't know Amon was his brother when Korra confronted him at city hall. That's not why he made that face. He literally said while you guys were talking, he didn't know Amon was his brother until he lost his bending.

The part of the brain referred to as the 'third eye', the pineal gland is most likely what their bending comes from in the avatar universe. Some how it develops differently in benders to help them fully manipulate the elements out their own body. Usually the one most like their personality, which is how they are able to influence it. Since the flow of thoughts is controlled by blood in the brain,( which is how you see the brain activity in MRIs and CAT scans) this part of the brain can be blocked or even theoretically separated from the rest of the brain but more likely crippled using very precise blood bending to cause very acute hemmoraging to that part of the brain. We can see that is possible by the blood bender's ability to pull blood away from the brain, causing people to pass out. Aang's energy bending is most likely to do with permanently blocking chi by locking the 6th chakra, the third eye chakra, but above is my science-based theory on how Amond uses bloodbending to take away others' ability to bend.
