Like boxing or pitches, there's a variety of ways to connect with a spike instead of just hitting it hard (like Hinata has been doing). Straights, crosses, broads, cuts, wipes, dinks and dumps are all different ways of getting the ball through.

When Hinata and Kageyama are doing the weird quick attack its hard for Hinata to switch up how he hits the ball since he's not even looking the whole time and the ball is coming at him faster than a regular toss. It's good for speed but bad since you can only hit it one way.
