IDK but Im not feeling the main character, Riko. She kinda lacks a lot of common sense and is hella selfish and bossy.

I feel this needs to be explained (no spoilers I promise). The way the curse of the abyss activates isn't when they go down it's when they come back up. Think of it like when scuba divers go down and they have to come back up slowly in order to not develop air bubbles in their blood. It works like that except no matter how slowly you ascend in the abyss the affects are the same depending on how far you go down. The only thing you can do is get used to the affects.

Just for shits, let's compare these depths to some real world shit, shall we? The bottom of the 1st Layer at 1,350 m (4,429 ft.) would be like descending one and a half Burj Khalifa towers (828 m). According to the map, the bottom of this layer is roughly at the level of the sea floor surrounding the island on which Orth and the entrance of the Abyss can be found. The 2nd Layer bottoms out at around 2,600 m (8,530 ft.). This is about one and a half miles and is a full 800 ft. taller than the real Mount Olympus. The deepest point of the 3rd Layer or Great Fault is 7,000 m (22,966 ft.). The world's second-tallest peak, Aconcagua in Argentina, stands at roughly 6,961 meters. The highest elevated permanent camp on the mountain, Camp Colera, is situated 1,000 meters short of the summit, meaning you would have to lower yourself seven times the distance between the summit and this camp in order to reach the lowest point of the Great Fault. The 4th Layer's depths surpass the deepest known depths of Earth's oceans, diving down to 12,000 m (39,370 ft.). The Challenger Deep, the deepest known abyssal in the ocean situated near the island of Guam, bottoms out at a depth of 10,920 meters. This is roughly the cruising altitude of most commercial airliners. Just think about lowering yourself from the wing of the last plane you took all the way to the ground. The 5th Layer only adds about 1,000 meters to our total depth, but this is enough to mean the descent to the depths would take you past Mount Everest... with five Burj Kalifa towers stacked on top of it. And finally, the 6th Layer with a depth of roughly 15,500 meters or roughly 51,000 feet. If you fell from this height, it would take you more than 56 seconds to hit the ground. That's a long time to think about your mistakes...

It's also required that she be the way she is, or the story would'a never happened. She's headstrong as fuck and no other kid would consider going down the Abyss and keep going, knowing the kinds of things that are down there, and knowing they'll never come back up again.

Shes drawn to the abyss via unnatural reasons. She was "made in abyss" and the abyss calls back for her. If she ever makes any bad decisions regarding the abyss, its because of HP lovecraft bullshit.
