Loved getting the backstory on how everything transpired with the Airbenders and Aang and also how Zuko got his scar. He's not a bad kid at all and actually had good intentions.  His father is just trash lol

His tattoos aren't from being the Avatar. If you look at all the older monks they all have arrows. When an Airbender master's the element they are given tattoos as a sign of mastery over the air. But you are sorta right about the tattoos as well. Only Airbending Avatars get those tattoos because they were born into the culture. Other Avatars don't get them because they were born into other nations.

think folks just have a hard time accepting a realistic character in a power fantasy setting. Not sure why though, I appreciate characters that actually have to go through a struggle.

I think yall confused about something. The tattoos are an Air nomad thing its the sign of an air bender master it has nothing to do with him being the avatar and it keeps getting mentioned like it is.

Actually, idk if y’all know this, but, since you already finished the series, Ozai had every intention of killing Zuko right then. In an Agni Kai, but that was IF Zuko got up to fight. But since he didn’t, Ozai didn’t want to look bad for killing him when he wasn’t fighting back. So he gave him the scar and banished him to do an impossible quest he, at the time before knowing the avatar was alive, would never be able to finish. So yeah. Bigger trash than we thought.

Yeah, I never realized that until I rewatched it as an adult. I knew that the quest meant he wasn't ever supposed to go home. Ozai had been looking for excuses to get rid of Zuko, that one was as good as any. Who even knows if it was the General he was supposed to fight but Ozai stepped in seeing an opportunity.

A lot of what Zuko says, from what I've seen of the show, isn't what he truly feels. He says a lot of bad stuff, but he doesn't mean it. He's saying what the rest of his family would say in the situation. "Who cares about the peasants as long as I get what I want?" Besides Iroh, which of Zuko's family that he tries to impress wouldn't say that? But when actual lives are on the line in front of his eyes (plummeting to their death or hands crushed by rocks), he knows what to actually do.
