This dragon corpse was there because of the Sword Hero, Ren. Thing is that the Sword Hero is literally only 16, so he doesn't have the same maturity that Naofumi has.

The greatest part about the Shield Hero is that he is the most balanced of the heroes. Spear is a 21 year old horny guy - vain and simpleminded AF, Sword is only 16, but it's about that action and smart/good enough to defeat a dragon, but not to think beyond what that means, and Archer wants to be the paragon hero and is the youngest. The downside is that we saw the Spear with the Seed, and now the Sword with the Dragon. They don't seem to understand the world is a real, living and breathing world with consequences for actions

You were right about the Curse Shield, it's like a special shield that only unlocks when you meet certain criteria. The dragon shield is too high level for him right now, so it won't unlock
