This arc was amazing! Loved every minute of it and eve though it didnt necessarily end how i wanted it to, it ended how it NEEDED to. A testament to the writing is how they managed to make me feel sympathy toward Pakunoda and her situation, they managed to make me see things from the Spider's point of view as well as realize that Chrollo is indeed a good leader. Also looking forward to learning more about that residual Nen stuff in the coming arcs! On to Greed Island!

I said this before, but this series does such a good job of drip feeding you information through the story. Gon and Killua are finding more about nen and so is the watcher! It is so well written. The character's and development in this series is so solid. I honestly forgot how much I loved Paku as a character, but re watching it with you reminded me just how masterful this arc was.

Togashi is a master storyteller and writer. Next up is Greed Island! I'm sure you'll have a blast watching that one.

This is honestly a very close 2nd in terms of my favorite arc. I’m sure anyone who has finished knows which arc is my favorite, lol but the story writing in this arc is well done. It sets up the troupe perfectly as a great group of antiheroes that are able to be sympathized with at times. Definitely the best group of villains in a show imo.

Paku is one of the most well-written characters I’ve seen. I also love how Phinks, who we constantly saw as a voice against Paku’s resolution, is shown that he actually cares for his comrades deeply. As much as he puts on a front to be the savage one, he was the one who stepped up to explain to Shizuku and the rest of non-OG members what he learned after Paku sacrificed herself. And the way he told Gon and Killua that Paku was thankful for them... sheer brilliance in writing.

Welcome to Greed Island Arc, my third favorite overall all. Togashi is simply a chess master playing with us checkers players. Not only does the story hook you, it keeps going

Something that came up to me with the whole fortunes changing a bit. Chrollo wasn’t the only one who used the fortune to his benefit. You can say that Franklin was the MVP. After all, the inner bickering could have led to the deaths of half of the spider legs if they wound up fighting, but he took that information in addition to the Spider’s ultimate goal and prevented a near worst-case scenario.

I’d say that Phinks didn’t put on a front at all, he just cared about the Troupe as strongly as Paku did, but obviously differently. Both Phinks and Feitan were very rational. Their point of view aligned 100% to Chrollo’s instructions…which is loyalty to the Spider. Paku was loyal in that she recognized how great a leader Chrollo is and she believed (and was probably right) that the Spider would stand it’s best chance of survival by Chrollo’s continued leadership. So her loyalty is more based on the actual people than the concept. She further showed that by sharing everything that she had (including her feelings) with the Troupe fully knowing that it would cost her life.

Got to give credit to how well he writes female characters that are driven emotionally. We see that later later on with the “transformed” crystal ball chick.

Epic arc. This is my favorite arc even though most HxH fans put Chimera Ant Arc on #1. I just prefer the dark-city-hunt-other-people vibes. So worth renewing my patreon subscription to see all the episodes with you again. The first time I subscribed to your patreon I made a mistake and subscribed around the end of the month so I just watched the "big episodes" and other animes. but now it's such as joy to watch each episodes again with you. And seeing Sheera on the comments is a huge bonus because she and Lupa aren't reacting with you because of reasons stated before but at least through the comments we can see some HxH reacts from Sheera.

Honestly, Paku's death has always been one I can't forget. I really felt bad for her. The first time I saw her die might have been in the 1999 version so I was marked. Super writing on Togashi's part. One of the only anime where opponents try to guess abilities or even strategies rather than the generic explaining of abilities. Also, most characters have real motivations, they are not static like their lives are not in pause when we focus on other or main characters. Even people who passed the hunter exam were "living" when they were not "on camera".
