Pieces (season 2) is basically side stories they didn’t adapt in between season 1. Someone online has prob made a chronological watch order but i don’t think it makes much of a difference.

Missing Pieces is the adaptation of the chapters of the manga that were skipped in the first season but add more story and characterization. So yes, watch the first season first

You guys will learn why Miyamura has piercings and tats later on. From what I remember iI don't think it's explicitly explained but you can deduce it pretty well. Also I'm just gonna say this now, Hori and Miyamura's relationship in this show is a lot like Mai and Sakuta's from Bunny Girl Senpai in many ways. Some people think both Mai and Hori are abusive, but if anything it just shows how comfortable they are being around their manz. Also, they're both tsundere's and that's kinda just how they are in anime.

The order is so fucked that they advise you to stop mid episode to switch to pieces. There's no point in doing all of that. I think Pieces works just fine on its own after you grow to love the characters you get to see them in their lives more.

Rather, S2 is stuff that was skipped which shouldn't have been skipped. And it's a real shame, too, because Horimiya had the potential to be a multi-season hit if they'd just adapted it correctly. I'm still bitter at Clover Works for dropping the ball.

Yay! I started reading Horimiya when there was about 10 chapters out. I’m so happy y’all are reacting to the anime!! Hori and Miyamura have very different personalities than typical romance anime MCs. They both have pretty detailed stories on their own that explains their personality and I love seeing them figure out their relationship. It’s so wholesome. I’m very much here for Your Lie reactions sometime in the future, but Horimiya is a special story to me personally

Just from what I know about Toru's overall character he probably confessed to her first and then asked her if she liked Miyamura and then told her all the stuff Miyamura said about her to him, he's not the type to bring down someone to get ahead, plus I think Hori would've told Miyamura if Toru talked about him in a demeaning manner

You've also got to remember that this is in Japan, and standing out is the opposite of what society teaches you to do. Piercings and especially tattoos have negative connotations (tattoos are often associated with the Yakuza) and do not give off a good first impression in their society.

I don't think Hori only started paying attention to Miyamura because he looked differently. I think the "tiny happenstance" referenced in the title was Miyamura being there when Shota fell and then him bringing Shota home, which then led to Hori and Miyamura connecting outside of school.

I personally found S2 hard to enjoy. The whole point of a story that focuses on character growth is to see how the cast develops over time. I'll give them points for creativity, but their attempt to rectify skipping so much of the manga didn't work out. S2 felt like someone was deciding on which stories to tell by throwing darts at the calendar and expecting you to remember how much or how little the characters have grown at that point in time. In my opinion (and I know others feel the same way), Horimiya doesn't work when the stories are told out of order, which is why the decision to skip over so many manga chapters made it hard to adapt a second season.

The thing about this anime is season 1 has alot of time skip in a way like episode 1 takes place within a few weeks-a month of them getting to know each other thats why it feels so fast but season 2 "missing pieces" deals with everything in between

Still teenagers at the end of the day. They talk behind each others back. It's really not such a shock. Him and Miyamura have not even talked once until he thought Hori liked Miyamura. They're not friends. You can call it man to man talk but they're still kids and he probably brought up Miyamura as a reason as to why he even hesitated confessing to her. Messy teenager stuff

Worth noting that this manga originally started in 2007, and the "abusive tsundere trope" was still pretty popular back then; hence Hori physically hitting Miyamura. While I totally understand the distaste for it, it is something that will be happening consistently, so it's best to just accept it and move on.

Purple hair was dirtymacking. he was basically telling Hori that he liked her and to snuff out any potential hope for her and Miyamura getting together he also slipped in what Miyamura said to him privately to sway Hori's decision in Purple hair's favor.

The fact they kinda speed run the will-they-won't-they phase for the main couple is so refreshing. I like romance anime, but I wish there were soooo many more that weren't A) based on high school, and B) take 1-3 seasons before somebody confesses and then the show promptly ends. Yeah, horimiya is one of my fav. Romance anime. But I lost interest in the missing pieces season pretty quick.. think I watched 3 episodes before I fell off. It just felt weird to go back and watch a bunch of disconnected scenes out of chronological order that don't really change the main gist of anything. A super cut where the scenes were put back in order would make me waaaaay more interested.

It was aired at a time when the only shows that were guaranteed multiple seasons were action shonen, so I understand why they would focus on plot progression rather than include everything. Besides, when shows do focus on character development, you’ll get a million and one complaints about it being too slow, and how they need to pick up the pace because nobody cares about the side characters. It’s always a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation, and it’s damned annoying. It would be nice if Oshi no Ko revealing everything about the entertainment industry would have a lasting impact on both the distributor and consumer sides of the industry that would fix these issues, but I’m not holding my breath.

I dont think its about people judging him. I think japanese schools are on the conservative side so things like hairdye, piercings (for men), tattoos are forbidden in school so he can't wear them there. he uses his long hair to cover up the ear piercings and the glasses to take the attention away from the peircings in his face.

Not sure if you guys know or not but the second season is the chapters that they missed when they made season one because they cut a lot of the slice of life episodes. There’s some lists that go over watch order but it’s kinda complicated. Like you have to jump from one episode in season 1 for 10 min, jump to an ep in season 2 for another 10 min and then go back to the season 1 episode. There might be a way to watch episode by episode that doesn’t jump too much or you could just watch season 1 then 2 after to make it easy

Obviously I don't condone the tsundere abuse BUT I do understand why she got so angry and upset at the end. The subs may not have expressed it well enough, but Miyamura was basically implying that even Hori's friendship with him is fake -- just her doing it out of pity. For Hori this is likely the first REAL friendship she's had with someone, because Miya is the ONLY person that she can be completely herself around. Her classmates think of her as this smart, polished, popular student, and she feels forced to hide her not-so-polished parts, like how emotional she is, how she doesn't have a social life that would be expected of a "popular student", and that she has a non-traditional home life where both her parents are barely there and this basically requires her to be a second mom. She can only share these parts of herself comfortably with Miya, and she really thought they had a close bond because of it. Miya implying otherwise basically makes their closeness out to be a one-sided illusion, which is why she was so upset.

There is actually a "prequel" in a sense, called Hori-san to Miyamura-kun rather than the short name. It's not an actual prequel, but the adaptation has a drastically different style and is only six episodes. It's only available on Blu-ray or pirating it though

This was one of the only romance animes I could actually watch without cringing and was able to finish it, it's straight to the point, fast paced, and even though they're high schoolers, the whole vibe was pretty mature. Definitely a good show.

as someone who loved Darling in the Franxx, i personally dont feel the need to recommend it to anyone else. i'll admit that the direction the anime took after epsiode 17 or so completely destroyed the tempo of the anime and just whiplashes the story into the next galaxy. As beautiful as some parts of the anime are, it's also really hard to sell people an anime with the concept being literally Mecha meets intercourse innuendos with girls being bent over used as control panels....

All she knew about him were the rumors other people told about him, because he was a quiet person who kept himself. She didn't get the chance to know who he was until he brought her her bleeding brother back to the house and they started to talk.
