Fun fact: The face on the weirwood tree daemon touches is sculpted after George R. R Martin and the satyr-like creature with horns is a green-man. Buddies with the children of the forest with similar magic powers like warging(taking over the bodies of animals) In case you’re wondering why this doesn’t feel like a series finale its because it isn’t, season 2 was supposed to be 10 episodes with 9 and 10 being huge battles but due to the writers strike and production issues they saved it all for season 3 because WB is struggling with money so they rushed them it wasn’t the writers choice to only have 8 episodes they said so themselves. L move for warner bros I’m sorry my opinion. Now I’ll try to explain the vision daemon has with as little spoilers as possible. The first vision is Targ bastard Brynden “Bloodraven” Rivers who, thanks to the show, is confirmed to be the 3-eyed raven, the old dude attached to the huge weirwood tree, who would later help Bran Stark learn to use his greenseer abilities. We’ll see more of him and how he became the 3-eyed raven in the upcoming spin off show “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” which is about the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall(Brienne of Tarths ancestor) and his squire egg. Takes place when the dragons are extinct so its more old school GOT with knights fighting and adventures across westeros. The next visions are the white walkers you already know what that is, dead dragons showing the upcoming battles I wish it was more obscured because if you have a good eye you can see which dragons will die , daemon falling into water which is something that will happen in the future but I can’t explain huge spoiler, Dany and the comet that empowers magic just enough to bring dragons back, rhaenyra on the iron throne self explanatory, and Helena who is a dragon dreamer so can also sorta see the future telling daemon quit being annoying do your job via astral projection or something similar. I see some people confused and compare Dany’s dragons to HOTD’s dragons so I’ll also illuminate on that so double fun fact. Dragons when they got older not only grow larger but their fire gets hotter and their scales stronger for example vhaegar and vermithor are immune to scorpion bolts(Those big crossbows they use to try and shoot down dragons) yet dany’s dragons are already 8 years old yet are the same size if not bigger than rhaenyra’s dragon syrax who is 32 years old same age as rhaenyra. 1. Dragons are magical conduits as they are fire made flesh so when they went extinct magic grew weaker in the world as well as summers growing shorter and winters longer. When Dany burned khal drago, her babies body, the witch who betrayed her, and herself with the eggs during a red comet which strengthens magic(think sozins comet from avatar) she accidentally did a blood magic ritual that not only brought dragons back but supercharged them with magic. TLDR extra magic dragons 2. Like real world reptiles, dragons who are confined in small spaces like the dragon pit don’t grow as big as dragons given free roam we see this with drogon who stayed free vs his brothers who got locked up so they grew smaller 3. Due to the nature of their extra-magical birth they aren’t normal natural born dragons we see that in HOTD dragon fire acts similar to normal fire but in GOT dragon fire disintegrates or dissembles matter(I don’t know how to really describe it) similar to wildfire. Even Balerion the black dread melted stone not destroying it. So they have stronger fire and grow faster than normal Don’t get it twisted, my little brother asked the question on who would win S8 Dany and Drogon vs Aemond and Vhagar, Vhagar no diffs easily, Drogon may have the stronger fire but in melee he’s too small and his scales too soft we see scorpion bolts can pierce his scales but in the books they break or bounce off vhaegar hers are stronger than steel. Experience fighting other dragons also goes to vhaegar. Big changes from the books whom I gotta remind people is explained in-universe as a history book written hundreds of years after the events happened by Archmaester Gyldayn who doesn’t like rhaenyra. I’m willing to let the writers cook because there’s some wild takes I’ve seen from fellow book readers claiming this is similar to GOT season 8 chillax lol. I wanted more action but I enjoyed the slow character building moments too its just outside events have clearly affected the show so I’m not willing to give up on it immediately. A knight of seven kingdoms comes first in 2025 so sadly we’ll have to wait until 2026 again which is sad to say. Damn I wrote a lot forgive me lol

Season 2 was right in the middle of the actors strike so instead of 10 they had to cut it down to 8 since the strike so when they realized they wouldnt have enough for the final battle to season 3

Season 2 was cut short two episodes due to budget and because it was filmed in the middle of the writers strike. That’s why some writing/scenes feel off because it’s was mostly early draft versions of scenes that they weren’t allowed to change at all while filming. The last two episodes were supposed to be a big battle but that has been moved to the beginning of next season instead.

It's crazy how biased the writers are for Rhaenyra the show glazes her at every turn. It's always a man's fault or a misunderstanding all the women are her cheerleaders nearly every Baela scene is her telling someone to get over their understandable worries and feelings because Rhaenyra needs help. Alicent apparently hasn't sacrificed anything according to Rhaenyra and owes her a son nevermind the grandson Alicent lost who was beheaded. Otto told Alicent multiple times over the years last season that Rhaenyra would need to kill all the heirs and claimant's which was confirmed to be true. Including her youngest son Daeron who she hadn't seen in years. The show spent 5 minutes of screen time to establish was a 16 year old kid who was sweet kind better off without the parenting of she and Viserys not to mention her brother and lover. I love the show and the universe but i just need the writers to do better.

They created a show off of 300-400 pages of material that doesn’t contain any dialogue whereas GOT had 5 books. It’s just battle after battle in the book, this was a good season. They had to go through 20 years in S1. After this bodies start dropping nonstop.

Pretty awful season finale. Most of the characters are suffering from wasted potential as it is apparent to me that the writers don't seem to know what they want to do with them, this is made even worse by their clear bias for Rhaenyra which has resulted in the Greens devolving into incompetency. We really pick back up with Otto in some bumfuck cell with no explanation? Did we seriously end the season without Rhaena claiming that wild dragon, or dying in the attempt? Was it really necessary to spend explore the other Lannister twins' adventures with Philosophy Tube? Was a vision of A Song of Ice and Fire all it took to bring Daemon in line as the conclusion to his drawn-out Harerenhal haunting? Emma Darcy (actor for Rhaenyra) suggested the kiss between her and Mesaria after she'd just finished telling Rhaenyra her father raped her till she became pregnant. Is that random, highly inappropriate sexual encounter going to lead to anything? How can it? Worst of all is Allicent who just became increasingly more and more irrelevant as the season went on. As if the writers realised this they had her meet Rhaenyra in the last scene to give her some agency back but its completely pointless since the gold cloaks in King's Landing are loyal to Daemon anyway so her plan doesn't even matter 😭😭😭 The majority of this season could have been cut down, and we could have gotten some real action. Imagine Rhaenyra gets 3 new riders and we don't get a second dragon fight, IMAGINE.

The showrunner today implied next season maybe 8 episode again. When asked at the press conference to announce that the show would go four seasons in total what the episode count would be for the seasons. He said the pacing would be about the same as this season. So it's not looking good.

This finale definitely setting up the pieces at play. love the song choice at the end with Alicent and Rhaenyra.

it was mostly because of the writers strike but also because 8-episode seasons is hbo’s new show format unfortunately :/ they confirmed earlier today that hotd will have 4 seasons total and i remember a few months back it was speculated that they’ll start shooting s3 by the end of this year so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for the next season!!! and i agree with you guys, hotd s1 was definitely better but s2 was still very good :)

Can I be honest? I really think they're making a mistake by forcing this "Aegon's dream" prophecy about the long night (white walkers coming) & all that goes with it into this lore.. I get it they're trying to justify what went down in the last seasons of GOT like : "see guys? what happened in S7-S8 of GOT is actually cannon haha you can stop criticizing now 😄" ... but it isn't really. The book is short, they have to fill in the blanks a bit, but, it's there and it's complete just adapt it! I'd rather have 2 seasons BANGING, and it being its own thing ..

They showed Tessarion flying with the Hightower army in those shots of the different armies and fleets marching; she’s the blue dragon with the bronze colored wings and horns. We still haven’t seen Daeron himself though. I’m on both sides - we didn’t get a lot of action but we did get some meaningful character interactions. Daemon’s House of Horrors went on for too many episodes, I do agree Rhaenyra is shown a bit too positive/heroic despite having essentially ordered the deaths of the Dragonseeds and thousands more innocents. I want to see a mean streak from her. Two years is gonna suck but I hope they can bring us home with some awesome fights, not just dragon fighting but ground war too.

I think Plotto is in jail because Ser crispy killed somebody named Peasebury during a council meeting. In another of those meetings it was mentioned that the Hightowers were fighting the peaseburys because of that death. Remember Alicent asking her brother about hearing anything from their father- I guess that’s why she never got a response raven from him - I think he was locked up by the peaseburys. Side note, I think they could have handled that better. His little cameo felt like a last minute oops let’s not forget about this character kind of edit. Hopefully Otto comes back in S3!

Yeah HotD fans are almost reaching star wars and marvel fans in terms of being absolutely draining. I've never seen so many people bitch EVERY SINGLE WEEK about a show they seem to love. Books and TV shows are completely different mediums and they both have pros and cons in their ability to tell their story. Stop expecting everything to be a carbon copy. I commemorate the writers for being able to adapt a book where characters barley interact with each other and its not even from their perspective. Everyweek online and in the comments i have seen grown adults rage over the smallest details that the show makes as if it actually fucking matters to the overall story progression. Get over the purple fucking eyes its not going to happen! If you hate this show so much STOP FUCKING WATCHING. Suddenly everyone thinks they speak for george rr Martin or have the skills and knowledge to be in the writers room. Alot of yall don't deserve or appreciate shows that build up and give you information even though majority of you need to be spoon fed information or else you'll spam Everywhere "did anyone understand that?" "Did the writers think they ate? 💀" "this shit is trash, the writers have no idea what they're doing" You guys hate on reactors for REACTIING while watching but when I'm reading these comments it's like none of you even bothered taking in information while watching.

I’d say it was partially the writers strike, partially the showrunner and lead writers getting too full of themselves from the first seasons success, and partially studio interference, but this season really felt like a whimper. I hate that the majority of criticism towards this show is blatantly and willfully misinterpreted by “fans”, ignorantly dumbed down to “some loud crybaby’s want more dragons and action, they should go watch fast and furious, they’d hate this show like GoT seasons 7 and 8 if they rushed it, this show is too smart for them, yadayada)”. Fuckin hell. Nobody I’ve come across has an issue with this season’s lack of action. I’d even argue it has more combat than season one, which almost everyone praised. As for the story being a slow burn, that’s fine. I mean, people in the production promised that the slowburn buildup was all in the first season so that the second season onward could just BANG, but that’s alright. Slowburns work. I loved season one. I loved True Detectived season 1 and enjoyed season 3. I liked Westworld season 1. Slow burns are not an issue so long as the buildup we’re presented with is still interesting, captivating, relevant, and non-contradictory. The problem with S2 of HotD isn’t its slow pacing so much as what it’s CHOOSING to show us. So many liberal changes made to the story, quite a few “character assassination”, lore alterations and additions, and almost none of it for the betterment when compared to the book. Show “fans” love to cry that adaptations are meant to be different, yet that’s such a flimsy argument when the book provided an outline that is more succinct, dramatic, and somehow more cohesive (even from three vastly different POV’s) than what the show runners have provided us. George RR Martin, the author of this entire world, and the man who praised season one and was heavily involved with the project, has criticized season two and decided he won’t be returning in an active capacity for season three. If they alone doesn’t sway these die-hard show defenders that this season was a step down, I don’t know what will. Overall, the show wasn’t shit. It was awful. Nobody is saying that. But it was absolutely disappointing coming off of a two year wait and a great first season.

Why do we have so many full scenes that are there to pass along a single point of exposition? It's like the TV show equivalent of meetings that should have been emails. Spending 5 episodes on Deamons dreams is kinda ridicoulous, like we get it harrenhal is haunted. They could've capped of season 2 with the battle at the gullet, instead we repeat scenes of Rheanyra doing fuck all in her castle for the 50th time. The abhorrent pacing with 2 year gap between seasons prevent the show from hitting masterpiece status maybe in the next 6 years when the show ends we can look back and maybe call it 10 but rn it's just mediocre 7. I love the show but they did not cook with this finale, felt like the prep to the actual finale of the season smh 😐

They did it with GOT season 1-4, some would assume they could do it for this. Nope! The pacing sucked, they spent WAY too long showing characters doing nothing but yapping to no result, they spent too long on Harrenhal, they eviscerated the character arc of several of these people, and worst of all they did so damn badly that GRRM literally stepped off the project after Season 2 and said he wasn't returning for Season 3. Hollywood is quite literally intent on turning franchises into trash, for whatever reason.

While I will agree this season wasn't as good as it could have been. The portion of the "books" you speak about that cover the events of hotd is like 30 pages long, and is written like a history book. Writers had to come up with the conversations themselves this time, which is why the dialogue isn't as "good" as it was in GOT.

Alicent "you are the challenge Aegon!" Hightower forgetting she perpetuated the fear mongering on her kids and turned them against Rhaenyra cause she was a jealous bitch. She she created the challenge, she made a woman walk after she'd just given birth as a powerplay and actively undermined Rhaenyra countless times til she ran to dragonstone. The writers trying to portray this as some Sapphic tragedy between Rhaenyra and Alicent (and not Rhaenyra vs Aegon like the books!) after all that is ridiculous. This season has been an all around character assassination campaign and the only one to come out unscathed is surprisingly Aegon. I don't know who tf these other people are. The writers kinda fucked up with their admitted feminist agenda and dislike for certain characters, they're afraid to let the women be ambitious and cruel while the men are all simple-minded warmongering idiots that don't respect women 😒. I think it was budget cuts and the writers strike that caused the reduced episodes. The white haired guy with the red birthmark in the vision is Bloodraven aka the 3-eyed raven from GoT. He's Daemon and Rhaenyra great grandson. The dragon that flew over the army was Tessarion, Daeron's dragon. Otto might be imprisoned by the rebelling Lords in The Reach who declared for Rhaenyra. Not all the houses in The Reach declared for Aegon. They mentioned the Beesburies rebelling in a previous episode because they believe their lord to be dead.

And it's funny you say that "suddenly everyone thinks they... have the skills and knowledge to be in the writers room" as if not a single person watching this show (out of millions of people) is a writer or an experienced critic of film. What a sweeping generalization. You just couldn't possibly know that. There are some people making very good and convincing critiques. It's very dismissive and invalidating to say that just because someone dislikes a show means they're "ungrateful", and they should just stop watching. Not everyone is going to fucking like everything that's churned out by the media, and that's okay. Why the fuck do people need to be "grateful" for a show that doesn't even properly honor its source material to the point where the AUTHOR himself voiced his concerns? They even axed out an important character and decided to give that character's role to another. I'm not endorsing pure hatred, but I understand people's frustrations when the series they've been following for so long has heavily deviated from its source material from the books when adapted to television, to the point that it's become, well, frustrating. It needn't be a "carbon copy", but goddammit not everything needs to be changed. Though I do understand there was a writer's strike and it heavily affected the quality.

Prophecies and visions aren't unique to Bran. Quite a few of the Targaryens had it - which includes the Three Eyed Crow himself (which is why they showed both the man and the animal in the vision). Helaena is something like three generations before the Crow. Heck, remember those siblings that were with Bran and Hodor when they went North? The brother had them too

I don't know of this has been said, haven't gone through all the comments, but originally it was gonna be 10 episodes. But during pre-production HBO and WB merged and Max cut budget for all its shows. So they were told they couldn't do 10 episodes. THEN the writer's strike happened so they couldn't change what they had lined up. Which is why it doesn't feel like a finale and why so much was cut back because of major budget constraints and the strike lining up with production. Sucks real bad. I think they could have put off creating the show till after the strike and reformatted it to fit 8 episodes better. Then immediately get into production of S2 so it is still only a 2 year wait. But I am not a film making expert by any means and this is probably what they were able to do with what they had.

They also had an outline for the first two seasons and still managed to shit the bed on many occasions. Some of the changes were justifiable but man the rest? They hit bullet points and shoved their delusional fanfic into the rest. Action and dragon battles are not my priority, I want a consistent plot and good dialouge that moves the story ahead. Not whatever this season did with the characters flip flopping with their motivations and completely forgetting what they did to each other in the last 10-20 years of their lives.

So in the books from what i know Helena was actually a great dragonrider who loved flying. However it was the trauma of her son being killed that made her not fly 38:40 So the 3 eyed raved is confirmed to be Blood raven. If Blood raven is not known to you just look him up. Born like 45 years after this war and one crazy Targaryen, on the level of Daemon and he was using a bow as his favorite weapon. Not a spoiler of the show just an interesting character
