I'm enjoying this one. Haven't watched much of Black Clover so I'm not really that burned out on this type of genre, and Mashle was a whole other tone and a different enough story.

First of all I want to say I'm not saying this to hate or anything these are just my genuine thoughts and opinions. I harbor no ill will towards the show or the people who like it, you're entitled to your own opinion. So I watched the first two episodes of this series and I want to ask does anyone else think this is a bit... bland? It just doesn't do much to separate it and make it stand out as a story. The plot isn't really unique, the story beats are predictable, and the character designs scream cliché anime series. And no spoilers but from what I'm hearing from manga readers the future plot is just frustrating. Not sure I'll be returning for more episodes, but again that's just me and I wanted to share my thoughts. Thanks for reading!

Felt the same way watching the first episode, despite the amazing animation, the dialog and plot wasnt giving much. This episode, while it didnt do anything crazy, it felt better for me, maybe i knew what to expect this time.

Manga reader for this, black clover and mashle and i can say it is bland. It really just feels like black clover but more light novely than shouen jumpy. But it is still pretty enjoyable if you accept it for what it is and the studio is doing the animation really well. Just fun

I appreciate them giving Will Sport-Mode glasses, cus other shows just flat out be like “welp my glasses are broken, but suddenly I’m leveled up so my eyesight is perfect” 😂 nah man the character still needs them glasses! Now Edward needs to pay to get them thangs fixed or something!

As another reader the story builds a lot more later but as of right now the main selling point is how solid the animation is. I would say this and ragna crimson had similar hype as manga but the clear difference in animation quality is why this will get 2 to 3 times more reactions than the other

New spins on the same type of story is pretty standard. Like you could compare it to the obvious anime but even to shit as far as HP and other western media. The teachers imo, are very well written(from what we have seen) and that's why I'm interested in the show. I've also not delved into the manga yet, and i don't take readers opinions seriously till i read it myself(don't get me started on how awful the JJK communities takes are 90% of the time lol). Especially when it comes to stuff like frustration in shows, because i feel like a lot of that can come from expectations the community/audience puts on the show/source material rather than what the material actually delivered. So ill prob give this first season a shot and if im still with it by the end ill hit up the manga.

Similarities between this and Alicization go crazy... You got the OP swordsman who has it rough thanks to established power (Sion and Edward some punks fr) who has a blonde roommate (im assuming thats Will's roommate) and wants to climb the tower in the middle of the city housing the greatest peeps in all of the land to get to a childhood friend. (Ik this description is oversimplified and parts of it are blended together, but the idea is still there.)

Ye whenever there's a "copycat anime" it's honestly super subjective as your enjoyment depends heavily on how much the similarities bug you and how generic it feels to you. Personally, I liked Kaiju No. 8. but it was definitely getting a bit boring for me by the end of the season because it wasn't enticing me too much and felt pretty generic. Haven't quite had my fill of this genre yet and the adaptation is very pretty so I'm gonna keep watching. Totally fine if it's too bland, cliche or predictable for you, I get it!

You see it in every story that follows the same skeleton as this show, the MC is literally just minding their own damn business and not doing anything to bother them but these character just HAVE to hate for no reason other than "you're different"... oh shit, never mind I retract my statement lol

It's like that in real life though. As someone who is often envied - I don't have to actually do anything worthy of that emotion. It's something people feel when they see me, and then they allow it to create insecurity that causes them to act unsightly. In other words, emotions don't need a reason. Feel the same. I tried reading the manga and I’ve never dropped a manga so fast. It feels like it’s just bland and rushing. Honestly feel like being introduced to someone as strong as Edward this early was a waste but I’m looking forward to seeing him go all out eventually.

Damn after 1st episode I had high hopes for this anime and maybe it will still deliver. I would have liked it better if the professor who we were just told by story is the strongest wizard and closest to becoming a magic vander didn't sneak him to test him. I mean dude if your so confident that magic is the best than give him a sword and beat him at his full strength to prove ur point.

1 of my biggest issues with this anime is that the MC has zero magic and has been in a MAGIC school for years wtf the person he loves is a magic vander and she what has no authority to be like he my lover/friend I want him by my side? Instead of being a warrior or guard he can't be with her if he doesn't go to magic school? I'll see where this goes but plot sound dumb lol
