Not gonna lie, I’ve felt little interest nor empathy for Rhaenys and her death did nothing for me here, which is crazy because in Fire and Blood, what little bits she got made her one of my favorites. I largely blame Sarah Hess for writing incredibly illogical and unlikable characters (and often not intentionally). I know RC supposedly wrote this episode, but I can see Hess’ increased influence throughout the entire season so far. That being said, the spectacle was certainly there this episode thanks to Taylor’s directing.

I think Rhaenys was planning on sacrificing herself to at least take them both out. It's not impossible for Malys to take on Vhagar, and both rider and dragon are experienced. Aemond was just clever in how he utilized Vhagar. The shitty thing is if Daemon didn't go off on his own, and stayed him and Rhaenys could of ended that shit. Daemon and Coraxes are insane, don't think Aemond and Vhagar would of survived that team up.

I don't think Rhaenyra had any idea what was going to happen. She thought it was gonna be an easy dub for her side. Not that she would ever lose Rhaenys. The shock on her face was from Rhaenys even volunteering to go fight when the whole time that woman has been against fighting especially with Dragons. What she showed all season. Rhaenyra seemed sad as she spoke to her son, because she sees now she has to be fully committed to war with no other option. And that she has to sends out dragons at all. She has grown up around dragons her whole life so she already knew how devastating they can be if they are just out going full power. I don’t think she knew Vhaegar was gonna be there since protecting King’s Landing seemed so important to the Greens. I'm aware how the story goes so yes you are right. But there would simply have been too many civilian casualties with the amount of dragons about. Daemon doesn't care about that though, and Rhaenyra would have ascended to a throne with no one to rule over, the realm would have rejected her. This is exactly contrary to why she refused her dragons to go out in the field for so long, she needed to know if peace could be maintained.

Sheera is wrong about Rhaenyra knowing Rhaenys was on a suicide mission. You don't send your strongest war asset on a suicide mission. The whole purpose of the Battle of Rook's Rest was Aemond lying in wait because Cole and him knew the Blacks were going to send a dragon. If the Blacks knew Aemond was there with Vhagar they would've said fuck that and either done nothing, or send out Rhaenyra as well.

Allicents own failings as a parent stem from the early death of her mother and the complete apathy of Otto + being forced to be a bride when she's still basically a child. Whereas Rhaenyra had a loving father and mother for a good portion of her life and the position to be able to refuse things like marrying a Lannister for political capital. And that apathy and placement of political gain above all else has passed down from Otto to Allicent to Aegon and Aemond, generational trauma. Not that it excuses anything, but Rhaenyra had far more room to grow and find herself as a child, and the ability to refuse certain things since she was a Targaryen. I think it's almost to be expected that she would be a more caring and active mother than Allicent is, she also had all her children somewhat of her own volition with men that she loved. Allicent has never had anything close to that.

The issue is that right there, how would he do it? He failed at assassinating him, mostly because of his poor choice of assassins, but also with the lack of planning. I would argue this by itself shows he's more of a valuable fighter, than an actual strategist. His mental state is also handicapping him. I could see him stalking Crystal Balls force with Coraxes, right after getting the message, but not informing anyone to keep it hidden that he's not at Harenhall. Regardless this was just a good play by Crystal and Aemond. More of a W for Aemond sense he also got to fuck up his brother, on top of the strategic W.

I don't understand why people want to just want to place these characters in a box of black and white morality, that's antithetical to the entire story. They are trying to tell you something with the way this generational conflict is unfolding, it is not just a spectacle of medieval warfare and dragons. But if you want to just look at Allicent as a bad person and leave it at that, that's fine. Just seems like you're not really enjoying everything the story has to offer if so. Daemon's entire deal these last two episodes is about how we should care about his inner demons despite the horrific things he's done. Why would we not do the same for Allicent?

Part of it could be him but even if he paid attention (which he never was) he technically wasn't set to inherit anything and he didn't plan to. He knew he shouldn't have to be king so he didn't expect to have work for it since the being the first born son would have only mattered to him if he expected to inherit. The rulers in game of thrones are short sighted when it comes to succession in the show. If you are not the direct heir you won't be taught much in terms of ruling even if you were supposed to be prepared in case this person died. You're pretty much ignored or forgotten by the current ruler unless it becomes absolutely necessary and they try to catch you up to speed in the last minute.. ( Rhaenyra, Tommen Baratheon, Aegon, hell even Joffery and he was meant to take after Robert Baratheon). They were so busy usurping Rhaenyra claim neither of them bothered to actually curb any of his habits and pretty much let him do what he wanted and expected him to not be a full on puppet king. Ask Otto 😂 his thoughts that man is getting lit in old town right now because of the amount of stupid he had to endure from Aegon, Alicent and Cole.

I think people are misunderstanding Sheera on purpose cuz they dont understand/agree with why Rhaenys didn't run. Her mission was to defend the castle plain and simple. Both sides know that dragons will be met with dragons and that's why an experienced dragon rider had to go. If Vhagar showed up she'd be forced to fight her and only an experienced rider has a chance against that beast. Even after Rhaenys had KILLED THE KING, that wasn't her mission. Leaving at that point would've been desertion and lets be fr, Vhagar would've caught up to her in no time.

Rhaenyra is an idiot. She should have never went to King's Landing. If she didn't they might have gotten word that Vhagar is in fact not in KL to defend it and it'd be an easy takeover of the capital. Her absence threw everyone off. Idk man, Syrax and Moondancer are both very small in comparison to Vhagar. Like, they were at most as big as Sunfyre. Jake's dragon is probably bigger than his brother's, but nowhere enough to join a battle against Vhagar. Caxares and Meleys are the only big enough to deal with Vhagar. Then again, if Daemon is not in Harrenhal, the Green would probably not use this tactic, and they only use it now because they knew the most the Black could send to Rock's Rest is only Meleys.

In my experience, quite a few people always shit on traditionally feminine female characters (and more passive or less masculine male characters) and amplify their flaws, while making excuses for active male characters and more masculine or aggressive/martial female characters. We saw the same thing happen in the original GoT, where Sansa was constantly blamed for things out of her control and called all kinds of demeaning shit, while Arya's flaws were generally ignored since she was a "cool assassin" and had a kill list. We see it happening now with the more feminine Alicent being bashed, while the more tomboyish and martial Rhaenyra gets forgiveness or even praise for any similar actions and flaws. Of course, there are exceptions and limitations... but I've found that this holds true in a general sense, it's not limited to just men doing it, and many who do it don't actually realise they are doing it since it comes from cultural pressures rather than any concious bias.

Look, i dislike aegons ignorance as much as the next, but Allicent is a terrible mother. How many times have we seen her not care for her sons in needs of Mothers Nurture. In a straight up fight Melys was actually doing really well, clawing Vhaegar to shit and throwing her to the ground. The reason she sent Raenys instead of Jace is because he lacks fighting experience with his dragon not because she knew Raenys was going to die. You can tell the difference in experience between riders with Raenys and her dragon vs Ameond and Ageon and their dragons, they were just spamming Darcays while Raenys’ dragon was actually fighting, grabbing and attacking them. Great reaction as usual but a misunderstanding u see a lot of people have is alicent’s role in putting aegon on the throne and usurping rhaenyra. She didn’t have a role, her misunderstanding of what viserys said on his death bed meant nothing because if you rewatch the episode after he died you can see that Otto and the council already had a plan to put aegon on the throne that alicent wasn’t aware of. Meaning that they were gonna put him on that throne regardless of what alicent heard and she didn’t even know. Cole knew a dragon would likely have been sent based off his encounter with Baela when she came down with her dragon while they were all riding. He was banking on that chance so he set up Aemond with his dragon to be ready to kill whoever came. Rhaenyra did not know she would have died. She’s fighting for her claim, she would not go and do a suicide mission. That is against her entire mission. She was hoping she would be seen as weak and no one would expect her to pull up on a dragon. Had she followed her initial decision, Cole’s plan would have won them the war by having her killed by Aemond. The battle had heavy losses on both sides, but Rhaenyra just lost the biggest dragon on her side and the support of Rhaenys who had a lot of pull especially with her husband’s support. Who knows how he will act now knowing his wife is dead and believing his son to have also been killed by Rhaenyra in the past. The counsel was listening to him but fighting and arguing with Rhaenyra. If she loses Corlys support due to this, it’s going to be awful. Rhaenyra is in a terrible terrible spot right now compared to The other side.

So what are you annoyed by? That Sheera was sympathetic to the meeting in episode 3 that you didnt like, or the fact that Rhaenyra is even doing shit in the first place/the enire conflict. I think you are to close to this. In a similair way these three are sometimes to o turned off by a character to understand that all stories need arcs for the people in them. I think that goes for you too. Either a time will come when Rhaenyra will pay or shell be redeemed (though at this point you might not think its deserved). To be this worked up about a character leads to missing out on nuances and not getting the point of the story, and it happens to Sheera and Roshi quite a lot actually. Like with Sally from Barry, they could have just enjoyed her for the shallow egotistical bimbo she was but instead they got mad every time she was on screen.

I was saying the meeting... which was Rhaenyra pretty much WALKING into the ENEMY CITY with no support... like you realize the insane amount of risk involved there right? Like without plot armor, Rhaenyra pretty much shoulda died there with that dumb move. Also the other point about the meeting was the fact that Rhaenyra thought Alicent could help her... but Rhaenyra is the leader of her faction so she has power.. but Alicent never really had any power.. so it was entirely stupid.. Rhaenyra taking that INSANE risk for no returns. So it wasn't about being sympathetic to the meeting.. it was about Rhaaenyra's plan, her hoping to meet Alicent.. trusting Alicent wouldn't alert the guards.. hoping Alicent could help somehow... like I said, the plan was just Aegon-levels of stupid. (Or Cole sending the twin knight.. to walk up to Rhaenyra's base to kill Rhaenyra, which we all recognized was stupid as fk.. and Rhaenyra did that same move here.. To be fair, Maeyls (?) is significantly faster than Vhagar and WON the first grapple with her and Rhaenys is a more experienced rider than Aemond. Out of every dragon in the Black's fleet, Maeyls was the one with the biggest chance of winning besides Verimothor who is unclaimed. If Vhagar didn't ambush her, there might have been a chance.

I think its also important to realize that Maeyls has the biggest chance of winning a 1v1 against Vhagar out of the Black's fleet. Shes the fastest dragon they have, the most battle experienced, and the largest. Not to mention Rhaenys is a more experienced rider than Aemond. Maeyls WON the first grapple against Vhagar. If Vhagar didn't ambush her, there was a a non-zero chance Vhagar would have lost.
