The event at the beginning is semi true. China really had a revolution in the 1960s where if it conflicted with the current prime ministers teachings, it was deemed heresy basically. Some of china's most renowned scientists, artists and poets committed suicide or died because of the societal pressure. So crazy

as far as sci-fi stories go, this is a very interesting concept. i never did finish the series unfortunately, only the first book. Having everyone with chinese names made it a bit harder to follow especially with two of the main characters named yang :D this version is probably better for western audiences.

This was originally a series of Chinese Novels and then there was a tv series made in China called “Three Body” which is actually available to watch on Amazon Prime. There are differences but the overall storyline is intact.

I haven't read the books, but I watched a really invested YouTuber who described them at length. If they do it right (my buddy said they didn't), the next "phase" could be one of the most cosmically horrific show we have so far, making anyone who watches develop a fear of "progress." I don't wanna get into it to avoid spoilers but MAN. I haven't thought about the universe the same since. Edit: Also, WONG IS BRITISH??

This series, if done right, is gonna be DENSE. For those interested, Quinn's Ideas on Youtube has the best summaries, and explanation videos I've come across for this series. A lot of the page will inherently be spoiled since it's explaining a book series that's been out for years but overall if you don't care about spoilers then the page is a treasure trove of videos

It is true and the PRC recognizes this period as filled with mistakes. It was a precarious time in China's history as the Revolution had happened barely 10+ years prior. China studies this period quite extensively in order not to repeat its errors.
