Yeah its junk.  Well, no, but yeah.  This stuff is hard.

The video is a bit rough on the vise at times, when really it's only 0.002-0.003" out.  Probably good enough to make due at home, but it loses points for over-promising.

Though it was less than $150.

Cheap Milling Machine Vise is CHEAP!

This is a story about a kid and a milling machines' hapless encounter with ebay's siren song. How does the new vise check out? Not that great, but also not that bad. Vise break-down & mill vise chat. I get into inspection & measurement: specifically checking squareness in the home shop.

What a great (larger) remake! Thanks for sharing TOT!

Well, there is a challenge for you to fix it up so it’s within the ToT specification, odd karate chop here and there, odd scribe with water ... down to .01 thou 😉

Is there any reason that you dont seem to be planning on truing this up? Seems like it would be a pretty good deal if you could bring up the accuracy with the surface grinder.

Oh- you bought a surface grinding project. Cool!

The finish on the jaw nut and mating surface were... Gross.

Maybe it will work for making dew.

I thought you were fair about it. I’d love to see something in-between this and an Orange level reviewed.

I'm a total novice at machining, but I'm a serial hobbyist so I tend to gather a passable level of skill at lots of things… The only thing I could think throughout was "Surface grinder?" It seems like you could at least get the high spots out of the jaw area, no?

Thank you, Tony. You made my day.

I just rewatched this video and wondered how difficult it would be for you to surface-grind or hand scrape this vise into shape...? Surely it must be possible?
