Shrubley wants to be the greatest S-Grade adventurer the world has ever known.
That's a tall order when you're a monster. And to make matters worse, Shrubley is the weakest type of monster imaginable. He's a walking, talking, shrub.
With infinite stores of optimism, Shrubley brazenly strolls into the nearest Adventurers Guild with an invitation card from the Druid that gave him life.
While the invite guarantees admittance, it will be an uphill battle to convince his fellow adventurers that he's not just another monster, but a hero-in-training. When he's not brawling with monsters threatening the local townsfolk, he'll be fighting for acceptance from the very people he's saving.
With a band of fellow low-tier monsters, a tiny slime, a skeletal mage, and a koblin, Shrubley sets off to prove that monsters can be heroes too.
What to expect: Weak to monstrously strong, a diverse cast of monsters with unique monster-race powers, a deep class and color-based magic system, silly puns, and of course a hefty dose of optimism. Because the world is dark enough right now and we all could use a little light in our lives.

Sohmer and I are absolutely thrilled to bring Shrubley to Kindle! This is probably one of my favorite books and nearest to my heart.
If you didn't know, Shrubley originally started as a short little story I made way back when I was writing Beastborne. However, at the time I was working mandatory OT during the pandemic as an EMT and couldn't dedicate much time to other stories.
I also figured that Shrubley wouldn't be marketable. I mean, he's a little overly optimistic shrub! Everybody wants cool main characters with dark powers, right? So I shelved the idea for a long time, kept the first few chapters (which are still among my favorite of the whole book) and went ahead with other stories.
Fast forward to last year, and I finally figured it was time for Shrubley to shine. With Sohmer's help we were able to bring this story to all of you, and the response both here and on RR (with nearly half a million views) was more than I could have expected.
I hope each and every one of you will help Shrubley to live his best life. I absolutely love him and his uniquely optimistic outlook. No matter how dark or harrowing things get, Shrubley can always manage to find the good. If only we were all so lucky to see things like he does.
And finally, a massive THANK YOU to each and one of you who read the story, commented, and provided encouragement. I may not have much time to reply anymore, but I see each and every comment and like! Seriously, you guys are the reason both Sohmer and I are able to write for a living, so from the bottom of our hearts: thank you!
