What would you write about if an editor offered you the chance to write about anything you wanted to? I mean, within reason -- film or media related, at least tangentially -- but I am having a bit of trouble deciding what to do. So I thought I'd put the question to you.

What haven't I written about? Or who(m)? Looking over the field of avant-garde production, I feel as though I've covered most of the filmmakers I wanted to. But maybe I'm forgetting something / someone?

What would you want to read me writing about? (And don't say "anything." I need advice.)

Some place you may not be comfortable going, but I'd be curious about, is your relatively recent autism diagnosis and looking at some aspect of your relationship with film and/or specific filmmakers through that lens. (I mention this because I'm in the process of getting diagnosed myself, even though I've already gotten a couple "well, duh's", but also abject confusion for people who think that RAIN MAN is the final word in what autism is like.)

Agree with all others; another similar idea is an experimental film “trends” piece/state of the scene. Maybe that sounds annoying / maybe it IS — but I think you’d make it your own

These are all very reasonable suggestions but also may one consider a comprehensive history of 'the cat film' (and its history) as one of the foundations of a-g cinema :)

Avant-garde cinema, it’s relation to the cinema of today, and perhaps a general temperature taking of the current pop and/or indie arthouse and/or international landscape in relation to your read on the avant-garde? I don’t know if that makes sense…or just do what Scout said up there.

Upside: more people see a-g film now than ever before (Criterion, YouTube). Downside: it is just another kind of "content."

Probably not a surprise coming from me, but I’d love for you to get super in the weeds on a major ag filmmaker or two who you consider favorites, even if they are the major figures. Individual chronological reviews of all of Snow Frampton Gehr Menken Ahwesh Friedrich or whoever. Could be more contemporary too if readers are sick of those folks, but I’d be all about it. Or you could finish the Luther Price Biscotts… :)
