Hi there!

Although it probably isn't necessary, I did want to post a quick note to address the fact that I have been rather distracted from cinema. In addition to teaching five online classes this term -- man, Covid really broke this generation, college is a total shitshow now -- Jen and I have been struggling for, no lie, ten weeks trying to get a working HVAC system installed. I won't bore you with the details, but the whole ordeal involved lawyers, money, but alas, no guns.

Anyway, it's time for a recommitment ceremony to the Films of the Cinema, and now that things are a bit less insane, I should be seeing more and writing more. Tomorrow I hope to write up Wai Ka-Fai's really impressive Detective vs. Sleuths, one of the best films of the year. And this weekend my ass will return to theaters for a trio of high-power festival hits (TÁR, Decision to Leave, and, um, Triangle of Sadness). So stay tuned.
