NOTE: Now that I am summarily banned from Twitter, I will occasionally be dropping quickie posts like this, just to comment on various things that I would have tweeted about in the past. But relax! This will not be a substitute for my twitter feed. Politics will be kept at a bare minimum, and actually posts like this will be kept to a minimum as well.

1. The hybrid 50-film TIFF should be "interesting," in the sense that it will merely exist. I expect mostly Oscar kickoffs and a general attempt by the industry to salvage 2020. The Sasha Stones and Jeffrey Wellses of the world will be pigs in shit (even more than usual.) Too bad they will be barred from Canada with their now-worthless American passports!

2. It's nice that Kino Lorber is reversing its earlier decision (apparent from previous promotional materials) and releasing Atom Egoyan's Guest of Honour with the correct, Canadian spelling. Keep Canadian cinema foreign!

3. As Trump continues to tank in the polls, something occurred to me. In the 2016 election and its aftermath, there was lots of concern about the specific states that Hillary failed to go to, and we have all heard the argument that she lost the election because she never went to Michigan or Wisconsin. In this regard, Covid-19 is a gamechanger for Joe Biden, since he will be visiting exactly zero states. Conducting the campaign from his basement, while Trump insists on doing his ridiculous, ego-driven rallies, means that Trump is playing defense for once. And best of all, he is too stupid to realize it. Here's some history about the "doorstep campaign," and how Covid is forcing a return to an earlier, pre-media-driven form of electioneering.
