Well, for some reason, making selections from N-Z was not nearly as difficult as A-M was. So I went ahead and did it. They are not any better, mind you. One note, in case it wasn't obvious: I limited myself to one song per artist, lest I end up with an entire Liz Phair / Neko Case playlist.

Here we go, again.

51. NEKO CASE - "Where Did I Leave That Fire"

52. NEW PORNOGRAPHERS - "Centre For Holy Wars"

53. NICK LOWE - "Cruel to Be Kind"

54. NIRVANA - "Sappy" (aka "Verse Chorus Verse")

55. NO DOUBT - "Simple Kind of Life"

56. NOTORIOUS B.I.G. - "Hypnotize"

57. OUR LADY PEACE - "In Repair"

58. PANIC! AT THE DISCO - "Vegas Lights"

59. PATTI SMITH - "Break It Up"

60. PAUL MCCARTNEY / WINGS - "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five"

61. PAVEMENT - "Debris Slide"

62. PENGUIN VILLA - "Acrophobia"

63. PERE UBU - "30 Seconds Over Tokyo"

64. PJ HARVEY - "The Sky Lit Up"

65. PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - "Lump"

66. PRINCE & THE REVOLUTION - "Around the World in a Day"

67. PROPAGANDA - "Duel"

68. R.E.M. - "Flowers of Guatemala"

69. (nice!) RADIOHEAD - "Everything In Its Right Place"

70. RIDE - "Leave Them All Behind"

71. RIHANNA - "Diamonds"

72. RILO KILEY - "Love and War (11/11/46)"

73. ROBYN HITCHCOCK - "Sounds Great When You're Dead"

74. ROXY MUSIC - "Same Old Scene"

75. RUN-DMC - "It's Tricky"

76. SCOTT WALKER - "Tilt"

77. SCRITTI POLITTI - "Absolute"

78. SHARON VAN ETTEN - "Give Out"

79. SIA - "Elastic Heart"

80. SLEATER-KINNEY - "Things You Say"

81. SONICS - "Have Love Will Travel"

82. SPARKS - "Aeroflot"

83. STEELY DAN - "The Royal Scam"

84. STEVE EARLE & THE DUKES - "Telephone Road"

85. STONE ROSES - "I Wanna Be Adored"

86. THE STROKES - "Juicebox"

87. THE STYLE COUNCIL - "My Ever Changing Moods"

88. TALKING HEADS - "Once In a Lifetime"

89. TAYLOR SWIFT - "All You Had to Do Was Stay"

90. TEARS FOR FEARS - "The Working Hour"

91. TEGAN & SARA - "I Bet It Stung"

92. THE THE - "This Is the Day"

93. THOMPSON TWINS - "Lay Your Hands On Me"

94. TRAGICALLY HIP - "Thompson Girl"

95. THE TUBES - "She's a Beauty"

96. TV ON THE RADIO - "Wolf Like Me"

97. UTAH SAINTS - "Something Good"

98. THE WHITE STRIPES - "The Hardest Button to Button"

99. THE WHO - "Eminence Front"

100. WIRE - "Kidney Bingos"

And there you have it. We've counted down the 100 lamest cuts from coast to coast.

I should notes that the egregious absence of certain acts (Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Van Morrison, just off the top of my head) has nothing to do with my esteem for them. But I tend to listen to their albums close to all the way through, rather than piecemeal or on shuffle. When their songs come up out of context, I find I don't enjoy them so much. But when I actually listen to Revolver or Exile or (especially) Astral Weeks, a mood and a context is set. So this is probably a singles vs. albums thing. I'm not going there.

Also your list is way way more interesting than anything I could do! Appreciate the effort. Interesting comment on albums...esp (for me) the Sleater-Kinney choice... Dig Me Out (album) destroys me...but don't know how I'd choose a single (might personally lean to Heart Factory or One More Hour). Just talking about myself at this point. Love these posts!

On the Pere Ubu - ever given a listen to Rocket from the Tombs? They were amazing, and when they split half the band went off to become Pere Ubu while the other half turned into the Dead Boys. "30 Seconds Over Tokyo" started as a RFTT tune. (So did "Sonic Reducer.")

I have never listened to them, no. Crypt, yes. Tombs, no. Must correct this.
