Behind the Scenes: Art Installation (Patreon)

Welcome to a little sneak-peek of a project I am participating in! 

Trust me - there is a LOT of new music headed your way soon (I can't wait to show you!), but also SO many cool projects like this one that are really only possible because of your support. I really wouldn't be in a position to have this kind of creative freedom without it, so thank you! Obviously music is my #1 passion, but I know many of you here are also interested in these satellite projects I do so I want to bring you with me as I work!

So - what are we looking at here?!  This is the atelier of photographer Franz Schepers in Hamburg, Germany. Some of you very astutely pointed out that I am in Europe now; you're right! Let me say - travelling right now is NOT fun, I am not travelling carelessly, I am following ALL quarantine and testing guidelines religiously and I do not recommend traveling unless it is necessary for work or family reunification.  Now that that's out of the way...

My photos will be part of an art exhibition in 2022. The images will be HUGE (wall sized). I am one of several characters in this mini-monde that will exist in the art gallery; The Gatekeeper of Pandemonium. The final photo will include elements of mythology.

Sometimes when you plan on compositing a photo you need certain physical elements - in this case, a dog - hence our facial expressions! Christina (photoshoot assistant) playing the role of a dog 🤣

I did my own hair and makeup (as always). I wanted to create a really geometric hairstyle that would cast strong shadows and create a sense of heaviness and weight. I know that hair is just hair for some people but I really think about hair like another form of artistic self-expression! As for my makeup - I wanted an avant-garde look that was still relevant to the photo, so I made some negative-space, white eyebrows! You can see a bit of the work-in-progress here:

And how did all of this come to be? Well, sometimes life takes you in weird directions. I wasn't supposed to still be in Europe... but there are some things that are out of our control! I put out a little call a few weeks ago trying to find a dress-form mannequin (which I showed you in my Creator Chronicles) so that I could continue working on outfits while in Europe. Through a chain of friends-of-friends, Franz happened to be the one who answered the call! So we sort of bartered a photoshoot for a mannequin! And now we get to create some cool art together. I love when these "happy accidents" happen!
