So, a few months ago I decided I was sick of my white marble wing earrings and thought I would much rather dive into sculpture and make my own. Earrings frame the face, highlight a big component of music (ears!) and are just one more place I can leave a personal touch when it comes to visual expression.

That being said, I have stretched ears and finding jewelry that I like and that won't fly out on stage is pretty tricky! The skull earrings I showed you guys a while back are actually really painful on stage and not ideal. One time, the right one caught on my jacket during No Gods, No Masters, I went for a big jump and RRRRRRRIP - the earring stayed hooked in my jacket while my ear jerked away. Ouch. Flood of hot numbing pain to the right side of my head during the show! Not the kind of Van Gogh vibes I am looking for!

These little earrings you see here were just a quick attempt to see how the polyclay would hold up. You might see them in super rare live photos but it isn't likely - they broke after less than a week. I'm not kidding when I say I'm rough on the equipment! I'm also not entirely sure it's safe to have polyclay through your flesh for extended periods of time.

In university I had a sculpture class in which we exclusively listened to Bob Marley while we worked... after a while I had to start bringing headphones! More about that in the next post!

If any of you know of a great sculpting material that is non-toxic and sturdy, or a sculptor you think would make some nice pieces to adorn my ears, let me know!

Best
