I really enjoyed this more mature version. Again, it's got some weaknesses, but not anything that can't be strengthened with study and practice. Rekkai's thoughts about the US vs other countries who have experienced war directly on home turf really hit me hard. Our government has become so much more corrupt and ideologically divided. The system is scarily starting to not work well. Tolerance, much less allyship, is being targeted for harassment, mockery and outright hate. Minority groups (race, gender identity, sexual orientation, personal morality, etc... ) are more vulnerable now (legally, medically, monetarily...) A certain former president really did call the Fire Nation to attack and ppl are willing to get violent. Yes, a complete oversimplification and comparing to a fictional show, but I hope it makes some kind of sense. (How can we and our children strengthen this country and change the system to a more equitable process? How can we defend ourselves and others in such an increasingly hostile world?) it's interesting to see how the characters and their nation's will navigate these problems in upcoming seasons with that lens.

Well said. It's that' moment when art reflects life. Interesting times we're in, here or in the land of bending.
