Three weeks left in the semester.... The suffering is real but almost over. Any students out there?

Not a student for a very long time... but a college (music) professor for 40 years, recently retired. We had our own kind of suffering at the end of a semester.

I feel your pain, but I took this semester off to work.

Care to elaborate? Maybe it's a loaded question and too long to answer. I'm just curious. :) For disclosure, I just have my high school education, myself. I'm a Ward Clerk in a Neonatal ICU, no formal post-secondary education, or teaching experience.

Ugh, yes. Counting down the days

I'm willing, but I'm not sure what more there is to elaborate with. If it's about "suffering," I'm not saying that it's the same as what a student goes through (I recall that all too well), but just when they're done with their work is when my work would become massive: reading papers (when I taught, my Thanksgiving week was had every hour filled by the careful reading and commenting on lengthy papers for a 2nd-writing-requirement class, to be returned for final revision), listening to individual solfège tests, giving and grading final exams -- all with scrupulous care and fairness, because students' futures depended on all those things. Of course, I concede that it was my job and what I was being paid to do, but it was a lot of concentrated responsibility in a short time.

Three weeks left for me as well, but luckily I've already gotten through the hardest of my workload. Had a term paper for philosophy due a couple weeks ago that either makes or breaks our grade. Got grades back today and I somehow managed to be one of the three people who got an A. Sorry I don't like gloating but it was just a huge stress on my mind and I was so relieved today. I wish you luck!

I gotcha! Thanks for the insight. Makes sense. Lots of things, many jobs included, I suppose, sort of have their more 'busy season', or perhaps more crucial or critically important periods (not to undermine other time frames).

I tell you, I haven't taken to the time to think about how much work it is for the profs to grade 80 assignments. Its easy to get caught up in my own world.

Yeah, that's why having not even gone to university or college, I was interested to hear his perspective when it comes to the end of a semester. It's not something I would normally consider, besides just a basic idea of the teaching career. But the idea of student, which is where I would expect to find myself in that scenario, I would more immediately think of.

What all are you taking? Congrats btw, awesome of you to forward your education while doing this stuff, too.

YESSIR! Go to Colorado state right now, it’s been a rough semester but not as bad as last year. I was sick for a solid month and just finished up 7 of my missing labs in the last week, finally have free time. Good luck to all of y’all!

I’m a newer fan & Patreon supporter & definitely wish I had found you earlier in the term but I’m also really happy to have your content to keep me company while I chip away at my papers & finals studying. Thankfully it’s finally my last year! Thanks for always making me laugh & I am wishing you the best as you too wrap up the term <3
