The cast actually do all sing there own parts in this. It's just that they have to dub over the sound so that it's more clear, and you're right that Pierce's definately seems off. Also you can catch quite a few references to Glee through the show. NBC aired season 1 in the same time slot that Glee aired on fox, and the ratings suffered because of it, so they had a bit of a friendly rivalry. I've only seen a few episodes of Glee, but they genuinely mention regionals like 10 times per episode, its ridiculous!

When this episode aired, the future of the show was very much up in the air. We knew they'd likely come back in the new year, but NBC wasn't committing to a return date. It felt like the end was nigh, a feeling that would be ever present for the remainder of its run. I remember crying as this aired, and I still get the urge to tear up every time I watch it again (which has happened so many times). I still maintain that s3 operated as a sort of metaphor for the show itself, Greendale being the show, the study group & Dean Pelton being Harmon, and the school board/superintendents being Sony/NBC. Regionals was the "hiatus" the show was given as we went into the holidays. Also, though I've never seen an episode of Glee, it was ubiquitous as it premiered and ran during the same time period as Community, so it gets a few jabs from the show along the way. From what I can gather, yes, the kids on Glee must always be striving for Regionals. Those high school club competitions, and such (and what else are you going to do to create stakes on a show about a glee club?). Anyway, glad you enjoyed this one. It's required viewing every December (along with "Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas") in my home. Nothing like bringing some Invasion of the Body Snatchers vibes to the holiday season. 🙂 Also, the entire cast definitely did their own singing. And you probably found Troy & Abed's beat familiar because the music, like all of the original pieces and scoring on the show, was composed/produced by the phenomenal Ludwig Goransson. Before he was scoring films like Black Panther and Creed, he was adding his immense talent to Community, while working with Donald to produce those first Childish Gambino tracks. There's maybe a bit of some "Bonfire" vibes on this song? They released the Camp album around the same time.

Yeah! I also got some bonfire vibes from Troy and abed’s duet. Honestly love gambino so much 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Donald Glover could definitely make a career out of singing
