As much as I do ship Jeff and Annie, the age difference is too large for me to be fully on board. And like you said, he often refers to her as kid and that emphasizes how weird it is. Also, I don't know if you caught it, but the reason Abed knew the secret service agent was watching him was because he purposely said that thing about making napalm at the end of the broadcast he and Troy did on the election to give her a reason to come back.
