Yet another absolute classic episode of Community. I've never seen another episode of television quite like this one.

Favorite episode ever.

This episode got me into DnD as a teenager. Now 10 years later I'm DMing a yearlong (so far) game with my best friends. So much appreciation to Harmon for this one, I've had tons of fun thanks to his introducing me to the game. If you get a chance, check out Harmonquest - it's an actual DnD game starring Dan Harmon and his friends where they have a new celebrity guest each week and animate a bunch of the scenes.

I love this one, but the Paintball, the dice one, the Glee Club one, and the memories one all better to me.

I was already a fan of Community from literal day one (had been looking forward to the project as a fan of McHale & Chase), so I was well on board with the show by the time this aired. But this was the episode where it leveled up from just my favorite show, to the show that fully redefined what a television comedy could do. I fully believe this episode will be referenced by film/television/creative writing professors for years to come. It's the best example, I think, of what Harmon does best, and why his work is so powerfully effective. The story, the pacing, the witty and succinct dialog, the way every character/actor is allowed to shine in their beautifully specific ways...and yes, the scoring and sound effects, which bring every moment to life in a way that crackles and envelopes the viewer. You can't help but become instantly and fully engaged from the moment that first goblin arrow zings past the group. They set the tone and the tempo at the jump, and it's a magnificent ride from there. It is everything that makes Community one of the greatest shows of all time (imho), and why it lives on today. Even if people want to pull it from streaming due to the dark elf make-up.
