The difference between a terrorist, and a freedom fighter is who won lol. During world war 2 French freedom fighters were seen as terrorist in the eyes of Germany. Also my prof did say if if someone hands you a suicide vest to deliver to someone, you shouldn’t take it 🤣 it means you’re the guy. Well the "Amantos" are just a reference to the western colonisers such as the USA who forced Japan to do business with them by firing canons at them in the late 1800s. Katsura is also real leader of the rebellion. Jee the translations are awful. "White Demon" is closer than white knight for Gintoki's nickname in the past. Straight man as in a character making side comments for comedic effect

Not the brightest to get on top of a public building with people and watch with binocular. I haven’t watched any more Gintama so I don’t know much about his character. But I think it describe a lot “the battle is over” He doesen’t want to be wrapped in terrorism. So he just lives his day as a handyman. He wants to leave all that in the past. That's why sometimes he seems not to care but deep down he saves the day well from the few episodes I’ve seen. They are playing the game. Well I don’t get enough japanese to be sure but yes it seem like it with the bomb. Yep the last letter game Also instead of just hitting the bomb she hit Gintoki 😂 Lol when they get breaking news to interrupt your show 😂 Ok onto the next episode Gintoki is having so much fun running form the cop. Running In the sewage. Typical All this for a concert 😍 Ah it’s for his daughter and the single is your father is Bleep Bleep 😇 The monster, man, there are so many jokes that fly right over my head. 😅 The the dandelions is the only thing he had on hand 😊 It’s sweet that the does remember. 🥰 After episode I get Gintoki not wanting to get involved. The Amanto are a bit of a jerk but it’s not like they are super oppressing. Maybe the flying party leg guy at the beginning but it was “illegal” I get Katsura fighting to get back control over their government but how many life he want to sacrifice. Great reaction. I like this anime and you seem to 👍 It has its deeper moments. And from other comments it’s only going to get better later. Take Care. 😋

nah that straight man thing is just poor translation. In many shows you'd see a funny character always making side comments so that's what it was referring to, like Ishigami from Kaguya sama, Kazuma from konosuba etc

A straight man is basically just the reasonable person amidst the jokes. Like when a character acts like an idiot, the straight man might point that out. But yeah gintama is versatile with its story telling. you get everything imo + the best cast of characters I ever seen I also believe a couple episodes from now is when crunchyroll adds the reference notes to the top of screen just in case you feel like you're missing something.

To answer one of your question, the show definitely progress towards a goal, but it takes some time. Most episodes are joke episodes, but whenever we get a "serious arc" (the first one is from episode 58 to 61), the story progress and we often get to learn more backstory on one or more characters. The last few seasons is all serious arcs after serious arcs (there's still a lot of humor though) and really ramp up into a big finale arc that wrap up the story pretty nicely.
