Im feeling super conflicted guys. (Patreon)

My channel and patreon is just not growing. I’m looking at other channels and they are reacting to more current animes and are raking in a lot more views. For example an anime called Horimiya and sk8 the infinity. I just don’t know what I should do. I mean I could try uploading earlier, but I don’t think that’s the only problem. Do you think I should start reacting to these other current animes instead of these older ones? I mean my channel has been stuck at around 38k subs for so long. Maybe around 6 months? I’m not exactly sure but I know it’s been awhile. I just don’t know what to do because I don’t want to let you guys down and react to something you may not like, but I’m getting really frustrated with my lack of growth. What do you think I should do?

I’d say react to the newer animes but if you feel like you don’t know what we would like to see choose three or 4 of the current animes and do a poll

Reacting to whats popular, whats new and hot is the most effective way to become popular yes. But that does also come with its own problems, since if you start focusing on like just new stuff, then you might start pigeon holing yourself. I personally wouldn't mind it but changing your content in such a way could end up becoming a double edged sword.

@AP This is just my opinion but I believe being unique is also the essence for growing a channel. Reacting to current animes just because it’s popular doesn’t necessarily mean more people will come to watch it because dozens of other content creators are doing it. Balancing between popular, trendy shows and making sure your audience don’t have that many options is very important. Perhaps you could even do some editing in your videos to make it look more fun and fancy as well! My suggestion is perhaps you could react to good shows (but not trending with everyone just on the bandwagon) that are often underrated with a dedicated fan bases who would go out of their way to look up videos about it; often being slice of life shows like Horimiya, Oregairu or actions like Darling in the Franxx, Fate series, Psycho Pass etc are also several good examples. Of course at the end of the day you have to decide for yourself what the right choices are. I hope this is helpful for you :)

To be honest, the only way to grow into new audiences and reach new people is to try and watch different types of shows. Big channels have the luxury of running several shows at once, they can spread a wide net. I haven't watched your channel forever, but it seems like you lean into the actiony shonen type of anime. Maybe fulfill the poll for your next open slot, and then for the slot that opens up after that, figure out something that isn't necessarily something us as your patrons might be interested in. You're not going to lose our support if one or two of your show slots go more experimental to try to build a more diverse audience.

Reacting to several anime openings (avoiding potential copyright) with requests or reacting to just the first episode of several anime is what I have seen others do and recieve more engagement but also the YouTube algorithm punishes a channel if a video does poorly. They don't help channels grow at all.

Well, i really think you need to do both more often. New shows for the hype and catch anime fans with the famous ones. Hxh, fma, Overlord... All these shows are on every single reacting channels. It's 100% sure that if you react to the new shows, your channel will grow. How fast, idk, but it'll as long as you are enjoying it.

Personally, I recommend some of the current and/or recently aired anine because they're just really good and really fun to watch. I think a good split is to react to some of the older stuff alongside some of the newer stuff. Balancing both will attract a wider viewer base. A great show to start with in the newer department would be Jujutsu Kaisen if you didn't already watch ut while it was airing. I had an equally ass-blasting good time watching it by myself as I did watching others react to it. This year in general is loaded with what anime is scheduled with returning seasons. I think another ine you'd love is Rising of the Shield Hero. Starts off kinda dark, but it's an amazing watch and is getting it's second season later this year. But, I'm digressing. Like I said earlier, I think a good balance between some of the order stuff and some of the newer stuff is a good idea, and also a balance between longer and shorter shows would do good as well. That way, you've got something to stick around for a while and keep consistent viewership while also running shorter shows to see what people like better. Oh and don't forget to enjoy the shows yourself. This whole bit is pointless if you don't enjoy what you're watching. And my favorite parts about reactions is when I see the reactor get sucked into the mood of a show they are genuinely having a great time in.

I think the issue with One Piece, is that it's really frickin long. It's true that it has a lot of fans, but at the same time, reacting to that show would consume an enormous amount of time and in the end it wouldn't net a good enough return (relative to hours spent on it). It's like 9-10 times longer than HxH.

Honestly, I don’t think it has to do with reacting to newer shows. I’d argue it’s harder to ride the new anime wave if you aren’t already established and that it could hurt your channel if you’re reacting to too much new anime. There are just certain shows that help channels boom, like AOT, One Piece, Bleach, Fairy Tail, etc. Shows like those I mentioned have dedicated fanbases already so really all it takes is one and you’ll see a big spike in growth. I’ve mentioned it in a comment once before, but I’ve moderated for one of the more popular anime reaction channels (SMF) and have friends who moderate for other popular anime reaction channels, so if you have any questions feel free to DM. I’ll gladly answer anything I can and if I can’t, I can get answers for you.

If you want to grow your channel, you'll probably have to compromise and include some of the newer animes into your rotation as well. Having a mix of older and newer animes would accomplish both growing the channel, and not alienating the older fanbase.

Personally I thought Psycho Pass is good because the hype is returning with the new movie coming up, genre wise it also fits well to be Re Zero’s replacement. That said, if you wanna try out some of the popular slice of life, Horimiya is a good one to get into, it’s light-hearted and very fun to watch. (Oregairu is also very good and one of the most popular but it’s also incredibly hard to understand it all for many people).

Honestly to grow you gotta try new and different things but also make sure it's actual anime you have interest in and not just what's popular because I feel like you have a solid fanbase and they'd be down to watch you react to whatever you're interested in

First is not like I know what work and what don't, because every example of something that work for some channel I can find a counter example of a channel that doesn't. From what I've seen bigger channel react to a lot more stuff both new and old however they seem to have editor uploader moderator to help them so the reactor can concentrate on only reacting. But then again I see other people react to a lot more and still struggling.

ok, just dusted off my YT-Account to spread some love & likes over your account and wanted to share some observations that might (or might not) be helpful; all of course only from my point of view: -some other Youtubers/Reactors that upload there also have some kind of intro they play before every reaction; don't know if anyone here in the community has a knack for animation & stuff, but maybe that would help you make your videos more "reckognizable" - some also don't only give the name of the show & season/episode in the title, but also a comment or something like that, maybe to stick out more? numbers-wise, I also made a bit of comparison: - your channel's BY FAR top 3 uploads are 2 MHA & 1 Code Geass videos in the area around 200.000 views, so those seem to be around your "fan/viewer favourites", at least long term until now, with the next being far-off AOT-trailer reaction with about 100.000 views - comparing shows with similar upload dates, it seems AOT is ahead in the last quarter, with a low of about 11.700views for 4x11 for some reason - about 1 year back, seems like Death Note & Code Geass were on top, with Tower of God being in the 10k - 20k on average & episode 12/13 about double with 30k & 40k-somethings - NGNL & TPN seem to be the least popular; Tanya maybe having a worse view/like ratio than other shows, but not sure On the social media & Thumbnail designt I can't help much, because my social media & marketing skills seriously suck; on the numbers front it might be possible to make some more exact analysis with data exports or stuff like that from youtube analytics depending on what data it contains (more comparison on view/like ratio over time, development of views on individual shows, etc.)

I'm a bit late to the party but for what it's worth I just thought I'd say what made me sign up to your patreon. I was looking for Re: Zero reviews as I had just gotten into the series in a big way and found your YouTube reactions. What hooked me was that you seemed really invested and your reactions seemed as genuine as they can be when someone is recording and broadcasting themselves. I'm not really a huge fan of reactions. I generally prefer reviews and discussions. I also listen to a lot of podcasts about my favourite shows. However your Re:Zero reactions were so appealing that I wanted to see the full uncut versions. So I'd say for me the appeal of a good reactor is a combination of three things: 1) A series I like, 2) Enthusiasm from the reactor for the series, 3) Reactions that are as genuine as possible.

I have zero experience or expertise on these matters so I'm just talking about what I like but one of my favourite YouTube channels is called Double Toasted. They don't do reactions but they review movies, tv shows and trailers in a comedic way while still being serious about their opinions. The main host Korey does about 90% of the talking but having other people involved allows for some banter and gives him something to bounce off instead of just talking to a camera. It's just a thought but perhaps the way to expand your channel is to produce content that isn't just reactions. Do reviews of manga, movies and shows you like. Have guests such as other YouTubers, family or friends on to do a discussion about an anime, show or movie you watched and liked (or hated with a passion). Maybe do the occasional video where you use a current anime to talk about morality, ethics, philosophy etc. with the events happening in the anime being a springboard for the discussion. Recent events in season 2 of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime certainly caused heated discussions about the ethics of warfare in the ANN forum.

You can react to newer anime’s if you want. Watching newer shows means it’s gonna be more relevant, people are gonna care more, so naturally that’s gonna cause growth. If you’re just looking to grow your channel, that’s the best thing you could do. However, this is YOUR channel. YOU watch what YOU wanna watch. I’d personally prefer you react to shows you have an interest in, not ones you think are gonna get you better numbers. Regardless, it’s really up to you.

Hi I’m new to your patreon, I have a suggestion. You can react to newer animes or popular ones. I’m not sure if you seen Naruto or One Piece but I’ve seen tons of channels grow from those two shows, especially at hype moments. You probably already seen Naruto but One Piece has a big anime fanbase, you can get a lot of new viewers watching that show. It can be intimidating because its a long show, but a lot of people love it for a reason.

Everything you react to is really dark and serious. I think looking at different genres of anime would be helpful. I recommend Haikyuu, because it has a cult like following, it is not too long, and I think you will love the characters, especially Hinata.
