Personally i like this arc of the episodes, not as much as the first arc with L but i wouldnt say its bad. also its best if you know this now. Near and Mello are basically the halves of L . Near is the more logical side. Mello is the more emotional and willing to do anything side. There's also Hints to this as you see Near doing puzzles and Mello with the Sweats.

"I don't even think Light did it[killed the director]" He absolutely did, and he did it for the reason he gave the team. He doesn't want the notebook in anyone's hands other than the Task Force, where he can control it. He especially didn't want any of the Task Force getting the idea to actually trade the notebook for the director. He just didn't believe they would go after other targets as fast as they did, and didn't think they'd use the Director's death as additional threat against Sayu.

I don't actually think this arc is worse or even less interesting. The reason i usually stop the rewatch after 25 is because even by then I found it hard to be in Lights corner and imo he just becomes even more of scumbag as the series goes on. So while i think the show maintains its quality. I just personally stop watching because it's hard for me to watch.

Death Note is the kind of show to me that is kinda harder to watch in the sub. As you said in the sub it feels like there are boring episodes where not a lot of things happen. I stuck with you from the beginning till now and will continue to do so but this is just the thing I realized about the sub and probably the reason you are saying some episodes are boring. Especially the thinking parts are much more interesting psychologically if you have the dub with these excellent English VAs. If you ever rewatch, do the dub! :)

Kinda upsetting that you directly had that negative attitude towards these two episodes while watching them just because some people said that the part before Ls death is much better than the one after. I feel like it would be better to go in with an open mind since there are going to be some cool things going forward still and the finale. The writing of this show never gets really bad. From what we have seen the author puts a lot of thought into each character and that their actions make total sense from their standpoint

Honestly, I think the new setup is interesteing as well (if it keeps up with the Ryuzaki-L-phase, don't know); Light has more resources at this point, but now there are 2 investigating teams in addition to the one infiltrated by Light, and while I assume both Near & Mello aren't exactly on L's level, it's 2 on 1 now even if they don't work together & Mello might be more ruthless than the first L ever was, joining up with a crime organization (Mafia?) & who knows what else he has planned. Also, even if they don't have all the information, they maybe be able to use the groundwork L laid, so that's another advantage L didn't have. Just my guess, but Mello knows who's on the Kira-Taskforce at the moment & Kira (who must have gotten info of the abduction from them) killed off the hostage, so by taking one of the Taskforce-member's loved ones hostage might help him to rule out who might be Kira, depending on if Kira's willing to kill hostage x or not. But, wouldn't there be now 3 Death Notes in the hands of humans now? 1. The Death Note Ryuk gave Light 2. The Death Note Rem gave Misa 3. The Death Note Light picked up from Rem's dust after she kamikaze'd into Watari & L?

you are right. There should be 3 death notes. One is probably locked away by Chief Yagami. Light has one and Misa has one. Or Misa's is still buried inside the ground. I remember Light telling her to just take pages from it and bury it again.
